The Charlotte Hornets pay a visit to the Memphis Grizzlies at the FedExForum on Friday night.
The Charlotte Hornets have been in a real funk as they’ve lost four of their past five games and they will be hoping to arrest a two-game skid after getting routed by the Bulls in a 106-88 road loss on Wednesday. Kelly Oubre Jr. led the way with 24 points on nine of 17 shooting, Mason Plumlee and Jalen McDaniels scored 11 points each while Dennis Smith Jr. chipped in with 10 points and six assists. As a team, the Hornets shot just 39 percent from the field and seven of 32 from the 3-point line as they struggled to keep pace with the Bulls right from the start and got outscored in every quarter. PJ Washington scored just eight points on three of 10 shooting while Gordon Hayward scored just seven points on three of 11 shooting as the Hornets scored just 36 points in the second half to allow the Bulls to run away with it.
Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies have been in decent form as they’ve won five of their first eight games and they will be eager to stay hot after sneaking past the Trail Blazers in a 111-106 road win on Wednesday. Desmond Bane led the way with 29 points, eight rebounds and five assists, Ja Morant added 20 points, nine rebounds and seven assists while Steven Adams tallied 14 points with 11 rebounds, five assists and two blocks. As a team, the Grizzlies shot 45 percent from the field and 13 of 28 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 30 points in the first quarter to take the early lead which ballooned to 17 points at one stage, but they had to rally in the fourth quarter after the Trail Blazers tied the game late.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 road games, 5-1 ATS in their last six games following a loss of more than 10 points and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a loss. The Grizzlies are 22-7 ATS in their last 29 home games, 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games against a team with a losing record and 2-7 ATS in their last nine games overall.
Head to head, the over is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings overall, the Hornets are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings overall and the Hornets are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings in Memphis.
The Hornets will be shorthanded once again as Cody Martin, LaMelo Ball, Gordon Hayward and Terry Rozier are all out, while the Grizzlies are missing Ziaire Williams and Jaren Jackson Jr. The Hornets have really been struggling lately with all their injuries and it’ hard to imagine them putting up much of a fight with so much talent sitting on the sidelines in street clothes. The line is hefty, but the Grizzlies should have no trouble getting the cover at home.
