The Atlanta Hawks and the New York Knicks collide at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night in NBA action.
The Atlanta Hawks kicked off their season with four wins in the first five outings, but they are now hoping to snap a two-game skid after getting thrashed by the Raptors in a 139-109 road loss on Monday. Dejounte Murray led the team in scoring with 20 points and nine assists, but he didn’t have much help as Trae Young scored just 14 points and 10 assists on three of 13 shooting, while Clint Capela scored 13 points on six of seven shooting. As a team, the Hawks shot 46 percent from the field and 11 of 29 from the 3-point line, but they had no answers for the Raptors on the defensive end, especially in the fourth quarter where they leaked an unforgivable 44 points.
Meanwhile, the New York Knicks have been in decent form as they’ve split their first six games, but they will be hoping to bounce back after getting stopped by the red-hot Cavaliers in a 121-108 road loss on Sunday. Jalen Brunson and Evan Fournier led the team in scoring with 16 points each, while Julius Randle and RJ Barrett scored 15 points apiece. As a team, the Knicks shot 48 percent from the field and 10 of 27 from the 3-point line as they poured in 34 points in the third quarter to take control with a nine-point lead, only to go ice-cold in the fourth quarter where they got outscored by an incredible 37-15 to allow the Cavaliers to slip away.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hawks are 8-20 ATS in their last 28 road games, 7-19 ATS in their last 26 games following a loss of more than 10 points and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. The Knicks are 5-12 ATS in their last 17 home games, 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games against a team with a winning record, and 16-7-1 ATS in their last 24 games playing on two days’ rest.
Head to head, the under is 4-1 in the last five meetings in New York.
The Hawks will be missing Bogdan Bogdanovic while Onyeka Okongwu is listed as questionable, while the Knicks have listed Cam Reddish and Quentin Grimes as questionable for this one. The Hawks were on a nice run before they ran into the Bucks, and they will be embarrassed with their big defeat to the Raptors. Young also plays his best basketball against the Knicks and I think that trend continues here as the Hawks escape with the win.
