The Orlando Magic play host to the Charlotte Hornets at the Amway Center on Friday night.
The Charlotte Hornets have been in decent form as they’ve split their first four games, but they will be hoping to bounce back here after coming up painfully short to the Knicks in a 134-131 overtime road loss on Wednesday. Gordon Hayward led the team with 21 points, nine rebounds and four assists, PJ Washington, Jordan McDaniels and Kelly Oubre Jr each scored 17 points while Dennis Smith Jr tallied 14 points with 11 assists. As a team, the Hornets shot 49 percent from the field and 13 of 31 from the 3-point line as they rallied back from a 12-point deficit to force overtime, only to fall short as Smith Jr. missed crucial free throws late in the game.
Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic are still searching for their first win of the season as they are now on a five-game slide after getting routed by the Cavaliers in a 103-92 road loss on Wednesday. Paolo Banchero led the team with 29 points, eight rebounds and four assists, Franz Wagner added 22 points with five assists while Wendell Carter Jr. chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds. As a team, the Magic shot just 43 percent from the field and six of 24 from the 3-point line which was enough to hang in the contest until the fourth quarter where the cavaliers poured on 30 points to pull away in the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record, 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 road games and 6-1 ATS in the last seven games overall. The Magic are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games following a loss and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games following a loss of more than 10 points.
Head to head, the over is 11-5 in the last 16 meetings in Orlando and the Hornets are 15-6 ATS in the last 21 meetings in Orlando.
The Hornets are again without Cody Martin and LaMelo Ball while Terry Rozier is listed as questionable, while the Magic will again be without Cole Anthony and Moritz Wagner. The Hornets have yet to hit their stride this season and they won't be at their best until Ball returns to the court, but they should be good enough to get past this struggling shorthanded Magic squad.
