The New Orleans Pelicans play host to the Utah Jazz at the Smoothie King Center on Sunday night.
The Utah Jazz have hit the ground running so far this season as they are gunning for a third straight victory after outlasting the Timberwolves in a 132-126 overtime road win on Friday. Jordan Clarkson led the team with 29 points and six assists, Lauri Markkanen added 24 points with 13 rebounds and five assists, while Kelly Olynyk chipped in with 21 points on eight of 14 shooting. As a team, the Jazz shot 44 percent from the field and 20 of 50 from the 3-point line as they clawed all the way back from an early 17-point deficit, before turning it on defensively in the overtime period where they held the Timberwolves to just six points.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans have been in fine form as they are also aiming for a third straight victory after routing the Hornets in a 124-112 road win on Friday. Jonas Valanciunas led the team with 30 points, 17 rebounds and four assists, Brandon Ingram added 28 points with nine rebounds and assists while CJ McCollum tallied 21 points on nine of 17 shooting. As a team, the Pelicans shot 47 percent from the field and eight of 22 from the 3-point line as they jumped all over the Hornets early and were always in control after exploding for 35 points in the first quarter.
Looking at the betting trends, the Jazz are 7-20-1 ATS in their last 28 road games and 5-13-1 ATS in their last 19 games overall. The Pelicans are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games against a team with a winning record and 1-4 ATS in their last five home games against a team with a winning road record.
Head to head, the over is 22-10 in the last 32 meetings overall and the Jazz are 12-5-1 ATS in the last 18 meetings in New Orleans.
The Jazz have been a surprise package so far as they’ve claimed two big upsets to start their season, while the Pelicans have looked fantastic with their starting lineup back healthy. The Pelicans open as favorites at home and they will be tough to beat if Ingram and McCollum get going, but I think we’re getting just enough points with the Jazz in this one.
