The Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics duke it out in a dramatic Game 7 at the TD Garden on Sunday afternoon.
The Milwaukee Bucks will be hoping to bounce back and book their tickets to the Eastern Conference Finals after getting routed by the Celtics in a 108-95 loss in Game 6 on Friday. Giannis Antetokounmpo led the team with 44 points, 20 rebounds and six assists, Jrue Holiday added 17 points while Pat Connaughton chipped in with 14 points on six of eight shooting off the bench but no other player scored more than six points. As a team, the Bucks shot just 40 percent from the field and seven of 29 from the 3-point line as they got off to a sluggish start and never recovered after scoring just 17 points in the second quarter. The second half was certainly better, but the Bucks just didn’t get enough from their role players as Brook Lopez scored just six points, Bobby Portis scored just four points while Grayson Allen scored just three points on one of seven shooting.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics needed to come out swinging and they did just that as they jumped on the Bucks right from the start and took control of the contest early. Jayson Tatum drained seven 3-pointers to lead the team with 46 points, nine rebounds and four assists, Jaylen Brown added 22 points while Marcus Smart tallied 21 points with seven assists. As a team, the Celtics shot 43 percent from the field and 17 of 43 from the 3-point line as they took control of the game early behind their defense before they rode the hot hand of Tatum to win comfortably in the end. Al Horford had a quiet game of just two points on one of six shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Bucks are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 road games, 8-18 ATS in their last 26 games as a road underdog and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The Celtics are 33-16-2 ATS in their last 51 games against a team with a winning record and 20-8-1 ATS in their last 29 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings overall, the Bucks are 3-12-1 ATS in the last 16 meetings overall and the Bucks are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings in Boston.
The Bucks’ supporting cast just didn’t show up and it cost them as they got blown out in a crucial Game 6 in front of their home crowd. Now, the Bucks have the tough task of trying to close out on the road against a Celtics team who just got 46 points from Tatum. The momentum is certainly with the Celtics following their big win on Friday, but that might not count for much as neither team have won consecutive games in this series. I expect a monster game from Antetokounmpo, but the big question is whether his teammates follow his lead. We’ve seen both teams come back from double-digit deficits in the fourth quarter, so while I think the Celtics get the win at home, I’m backing the Bucks to hang around and fight till the end.
