The Boston Celtics will be fighting for their lives against the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 6 at the Fiserv Forum on Friday night.
The Boston Celtics might still be kicking themselves after coming up painfully short to the Bucks in a 110-107 loss in Game 5 on Wednesday. Jayson Tatum led the team with 34 points, six rebounds and four assists, Jaylen Brown added 26 points with eight rebounds and six assists while Marcus Smart chipped in with 15 points. As a team, the Celtics shot 51 percent from the field and 10 of 31 from the 3-point line as they kept the Bucks’ role players in check and built a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter, only to go ice-cold when it mattered most as they scored just two points in the final 2:11 to allow the Bucks to run them down in the end.
Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Bucks will be aiming to book their tickets to the Eastern Conference Finals after taking care of business in a thrilling win in Game 5. Giannis Antetokounmpo led the team with 40 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, Jrue Holiday added 24 points with eight rebounds and eight assists while Bobby Portis chipped in with 14 points and 15 rebounds off the bench. As a team, the Bucks shot 43 percent from the field and 13 of 29 from the 3-point line as they got off to a slow start and scored just 19 points in the second quarter to trail for most of the game. However, despite trailing by 14 points in the fourth quarter and by six points with just 1:41 left on the clock, the Bucks stole the game on clutch plays from Antetokounmpo, Portis and Holiday down the stretch.
Looking at the betting trends, the Celtics are 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 games against a team with a winning record, 15-5-2 ATS in their last 22 games as an underdog and 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The Bucks are 1-6-1 ATS in their last eight home games, 3-1-1 ATS in their last five playoff games as a favorite and 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight games overall.
Head to head, the over is 7-1 in the last eight meetings in Milwaukee, the Celtics are 9-2-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings overall and the Celtics are 5-0-1 ATS in the last six meetings in Milwaukee.
The Celtics looked set to take the lead in the series for the first time, but they couldn’t hold onto a 14-point fourth quarter lead on Wednesday and are now just one loss away from elimination. The Bucks got the crucial win in Game 5 thanks to a monster night from Antetokounmpo and some clutch plays from Portis and Holiday to earn the chance to close out the series at home. The Celtics don’t have any time to lament on their missed opportunities, because they have to win to stay alive and it’s going to be a hostile environment in Milwaukee. The Bucks are obviously favorites at home, but the Celtics were close in Game 5 and I think they can escape with the narrow win in this one to force a decider.
