The Philadelphia 76ers and the Miami Heat collide in a pivotal Game 5 at the FTX Arena on Tuesday night.
The Philadelphia 76ers looked like they were in deep trouble after dropping the first two games of the series, but they are now looking to take the lead for the first time after outlasting the Heat in a 116-108 win in Game 4 on Sunday. James Harden led the team with 31 points, seven rebounds and nine assists, Joel Embiid added 24 points with 11 rebounds on seven of 13 shooting while Tyrese Maxey chipped in with 18 points. As a team, the 76ers shot 54 percent from the field and 16 of 33 from the 3-point line as they jumped all over the Heat from the start and took the early lead which they were able to keep right till the end. The 76ers had a total of six players finish in double figures in scoring but they will be most delighted with the performance of Harden who drained six 3-pointers in his best game of the series.
Meanwhile, the Miami Heat will be feeling a little nervous after coming up just short to the 76ers in a tough loss on Sunday. Jimmy Butler almost singlehandedly kept the Heat in the contest with a game-high 40 points on 13 of 20 shooting, Bam Adebayo added 21 points with seven rebounds and four assists while Victor Oladipo chipped in with 15 points off the bench. As a team, the Heat shot 46 percent from the field and just seven of 35 from the 3-point line as they got off to a sluggish start and trailed by as many as 14 points, but they will take plenty of confidence from the fact that they were able to stay within arms reach despite most of the team struggling with their shot. Kyle Lowry scored just six points on three of 10 shooting and looked hampered by that hamstring injury, while Gabe Vincent finished with two points on one of six shooting off the bench.
Looking at the betting trends, the 76ers are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games as a road underdog and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following a win. The Heat are 7-1 ATS in their last eight home games, 14-6 ATS in their last 20 games against a team above .600 and 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Miami and the 76ers are 1-6-1 ATS in the last eight meetings in Miami.
The 76ers were facing a possible sweep if they didn’t get their act together, but it looks like the return of Joel Embiid has been just what they needed as they are now back on level terms after winning both of their home games. Jimmy Butler was on fire for the Heat once again while Bam Adebayo has been solid, but the Heat really need their backcourt to step up. You can make an argument for either side here, but while the Heat have struggled on the road, they were fantastic in the first two games of the series and I think a return to home means better production from their role players. This should be a close one, but the 76ers are only 1-6-1 ATS in the last eight meetings in Miami and I think that trend continues here as the Heat get the narrow win.
