The Phoenix Suns and the Dallas Mavericks duke it out in a pivotal Game 4 at the American Airlines Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Phoenix Suns will be hoping to bounce back after getting stopped in their tracks by the Mavericks in a 103-94 loss in Game 3 on Friday. Jae Crowder led the team in scoring with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists, Devin Booker added 18 points with six assists, DeAndre Ayton added 16 points with 11 rebounds while Chris Paul and Mikal Bridges scored 12 points apiece. As a team, the Suns shot 44 percent from the field and 13 of 28 from the 3-point line as they got off to a terrible start and were always playing from behind after managing just 20 points in the first quarter. CP3 struggled against the pressure defense of the Mavericks as he committed seven turnovers while Booker finished with five turnovers of his own.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks will have their eyes on squaring up the series after jumping all over the Suns in Game 3 on Friday. Jalen Brunson led the team with 28 points and five assists, Luka Doncic racked up 26 points with 13 rebounds and nine assists while Reggie Bullock chipped in with 15 points. As a team, the Mavericks shot 44 percent from the field and 13 of 39 from the 3-point line, but you can credit this win to their effort on the defensive end as they had the Suns rattled from the start. Brunson finally came to the party with a long overdue 28-point performance and the Mavs got a real spark from Maxi Kleber who chipped in with 14 points on six of nine shooting off the bench.
Looking at the betting trends, the Suns are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games, 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The Mavericks are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 home games, 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games against a team with a winning record and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games overall.
Head to head, the under is 17-7 in the last 24 meetings in Dallas, the Suns are 23-9 ATS in the last 32 meetings overall and the Suns are 9-2 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Dallas.
The Suns will be so annoyed with their performance on Friday as they shot themselves in the foot time after time with turnovers which fuelled the Mavericks’ early run. Despite falling into an early hole, the Suns will take confidence from the fact that they were able to hang in the contest despite playing well below their best and I don’t see CP3 committing seven turnovers in this one. The Mavericks will have their eyes on squaring up the series, but the Suns are 9-2 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Dallas and I think they make the relevant adjustments to take a commanding 3-1 series lead going back home.
