The Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics collide in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals at the TD Garden on Tuesday night.
The Milwaukee Bucks will be aiming to take a commanding 2-0 series lead after taking down the Celtics in a dominant 101-89 win in Game 1 on Sunday. Jrue Holiday led the team in scoring with 25 points, nine rebounds and five assists, Giannis Antetokounmpo racked up a triple-double of 24 points with 13 rebounds and 12 assists while Bobby Portis chipped in with 15 points and 11 rebounds in a rare start. As a team, the Bucks shot just 41 percent from the field and 12 of 34 from the 3-point line, but this win was all about their size and physicality on the defensive end as they jumped all over the Celtics right from the start and never looked in danger after taking a 10-point lead at halftime.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics were coming into this series fresh off the highs of sweeping the Nets, only to get stopped in their tracks by the Bucks in a tough loss in Game 1. Jayson Tatum led the team with 21 points, six rebounds and six assists on six of 18 shooting, Al Horford tallied 12 points with 10 rebounds and two blocks while Jaylen Brown chipped in with 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists. As a team, the Celtics shot a miserly 33 percent from the field and 18 of 50 from the 3-point line as they failed to match the intensity and physicality of the Bucks from the start. It was a rough night for everyone especially Payton Pritchard who scored just six points two of eight shooting and Marcus Smart who scored just 10 points on three of 11 shooting, but the biggest problems were on the defensive end as they looked completely undersized against the big lineup of the Bucks.
Looking at the betting trends, the Bucks are 7-1 ATS in their last eight road games, 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a winning record and 5-2 ATS in their last seven playoff games as an underdog. The Celtics are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games against a team with a winning record, 25-12-1 ATS in their last 38 playoff games as a favorite and 7-2 ATS in their last nine games overall.
Head to head, the over is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings overall, the Bucks are 1-7 ATS in the last eight meetings overall and the Bucks are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Boston.
The Bucks were able to steal home-court advantage with an impressive win in Game 1 thanks to a monster game from Antetokounmpo and the addition of Portis into the starting lineup meant that they were able to dominate the paint which kept the Celtics at bay the entire game. I’m sure we’re going to see a response from the Celtics who need to play like the more desperate team to avoid falling into a 2-0 series deficit, but the bottom line is that the Bucks won by double-digits despite Antetokounmpo shooting just nine of 25 from the field, so I'll stick with the Bucks and the points in this spot.
