The Golden State Warriors and the Memphis Grizzlies duke it out in Game 1 at the FedExForum on Sunday afternoon.
The Golden State Warriors are coming into this series with plenty of momentum after making light work of the Nuggets in five games in the first round of the playoffs. Stephen Curry led the team with averages of 28.0 points, 5.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game, Klay Thompson averaged 22.6 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, Jordan Poole averaged 21.0 points and 5.4 assists while Draymond Green averaged 9.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game. As a team, the Warriors scored 118.0 points per game while shooting 51 percent from the field and 42.2 percent from the 3-point line. James Wiseman remains out for the rest of the season, while Andre Iguodala’s neck injury continues to hold him out of action.
Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies will be full of confidence after taking down the pesky Timberwolves in a six-game series in the first round. Desmond Bane has been leading the team in scoring with averages of 23.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game, Ja Morant is averaging 21.5 points with 8.7 rebounds and 10.5 assists per game, Dillon Brooks scored 16.5 points per game while Brandon Clarke is averaging 16.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. As a team, the Grizzlies scored 114.7 points per game while shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from the 3-point line. In terms of injuries, the Grizzlies are keeping an eye on Ziaire Williams and Steven Adams who are both considered as day-to-day.
Looking at the betting trends, the Warriors are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team above .600, 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Grizzlies are 5-1 ATS in their last six games as a home underdog, 18-6 ATS in their last 24 home games and 5-1 ATS in their last six games as a home underdog.
Head to head, the under is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings overall and the Warriors are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Memphis.
The Warriors were expecting to be in a dogfight with the Nuggets, but they cruised past them thanks to their superior perimeter shooting and it’s not surprise given how well Curry, Thompson and Poole have been playing. The Grizzlies needed six games to move past the Timberwolves, but they’re coming into this one more battle-tested as they had to come back from double-digit deficits multiple times to win the series. These two teams are pretty evenly matched, but the Grizzlies hold the mental edge as they’ve beaten the Warriors in three out of four regular season meetings. This should be a close one, but I think the Grizzlies draw first blood with a narrow win and cover in this spot.
