The Atlanta Hawks and the Miami Heat duke it out in a pivotal Game 5 at the FTX Arena on Tuesday night.
The Atlanta Hawks will be looking to stave off elimination after getting blown off the floor by the Heat in a 110-86 loss in Game 4 on Sunday. DeAndre Hunter led the team in scoring with 24 points on nine of 13 shooting, Kevin Knox added 12 points while John Collins chipped in with 11 points, but no other player finished in double figures in scoring. As a team, the Hawks shot just 40 percent from the field and 15 of 42 from the 3-point line as they went ice-cold and scored just 15 points in the second quarter to trail by 14 points going into halftime and things only got worse in the second half as the Hawks were never able to find any rhythm. Trae Young had a night to forget as he scored just nine points on three of 11 shooting while Kevin Huerter finished with just four points on one of seven shooting.
Meanwhile, the Miami Heat are now just one win away from advancing to the second round after making light work of the Hawks on Sunday. Jimmy Butler led from the front with 36 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals, PJ Tucker and Bam Adebayo each scored 14 points while Gabe Vincent chipped in with 11 points. As a team, the Heat shot 43 percent from the field and 13 of 42 from the 3-point line, but this win was more about their defense as they were always in control after restricting the Hawks to just 15 points in the second quarter to open up an early double-digit lead. Max Strus had a rough shooting night as he shot just four of 16 from the field, while Tyler Herro finished with just three points on one of eight shooting off the bench.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hawks are 1-5 ATS in their last six games as an underdog, 8-20 ATS in their last 28 road games and 8-20 ATS in their last 28 games against a team above .600. The Heat are 4-0 ATS in their last four games following a win of more than 10 points, 5-0 ATS in their last five home games and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 5-0 in the last five meetings overall, the Hawks are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings in Miami and the Hawks are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall.
The Hawks really needed to square up the series on Sunday to have any realistic chance, but the Heat now hold all the momentum after dominating Game 4. The Hawks are still without Lou Williams and Clint Capela and Bogdan Bogdanovic are both questionable, while the Heat are still without Kyle Lowry while Caleb Martin and PJ Tucker are both questionable. I expect the Hawks to put up a good fight and hang around for most of the game, but in the end I have the Heat pulling away and finishing the job on a high note.
