The Brooklyn Nets hope to stave off elimination against the Boston Celtics in Game 4 at the Barclays Center on Monday night.
The Boston Celtics will be aiming to complete the series sweep after taking down the Nets in a 109-103 road win in Game 3 on Saturday. Jayson Tatum led the team with 39 points, six assists and six steals, Jaylen Brown added 23 points with five assists while Marcus Smart chipped in with 14 points and six assists. As a team, the Celtics shot 50 percent from the field and 12 of 39 from the 3-point line as they got off to a quick start to take the early lead which blew up to 15 points in the third quarter where they held the Nets to just 22 points. The Celtics got next to no support from their bench except for Payton Pritchard who scored 10 points in just 12 minutes off the bench.
Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets are now playing to avoid the dreaded sweep after coming up just short to the Celtics in Game 3. Bruce Brown was the best player for the Nets as he led the way with 26 points on 10 of 19 shooting, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving each scored 16 points while Nicolas Claxton chipped in with 13 points and seven rebounds. As a team, the Nets shot 50 percent from the field and 12 of 29 from the 3-point line as they suffered another slow start and they just couldn’t snap out of it with their superstars faltering again. Irving shot just six of 17 from the field and zero of seven from the 3-point line, while Durant was forced to pass out of double-teams all night with the Celtics forcing the ball out of his hands.
Looking at the betting trends, the Celtics are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 road games, 4-0 ATS in their last four games as an underdog and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Nets are 6-27-1 ATS in their last 34 home games, 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against a team above .600 and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings overall, the Celtics are 3-9 ATS in the last 12 meetings in Brooklyn and the Celtics are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings overall.
The Nets needed to come out and respond in their first home game of the series, but they came out flat and were always trailing as Durant and Irving simply never found their rhythm. Game 3 would’ve been a blowout loss for the Nets if not for the play of Brown, so given everything we’ve seen so far in this series, I’m sticking with the Celtics to complete the sweep with another win in this one.
