The Boston Celtics and the Memphis Grizzlies do battle at the FedExForum on Sunday night.
The Boston Celtics have been in red-hot form as they’ve won nine of their last 12 games overall, but they will be hoping to bounce back after having their three-game win streak halted by the Bucks in a 127-121 road loss on Thursday. Marcus Smart drained seven 3-pointers to lead the team with 29 points and seven assists, Jaylen Brown racked up a triple-double of 22 points with 10 rebounds and 11 assists, Daniel Theis added 19 points on eight of 12 shooting while Derrick White chipped in with 19 points. As a team, the Celtics shot 49 percent from the field and 21 of 50 from the 3-point line and they exploded for 38 points in the third quarter to overcome an early 13-point deficit, only to allow the Bucks to close the final 2:11 on a 9-0 run to slip away in the end.
Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies have been in red-hot form as they’ve won 12 of their last 15 games and they will be looking to stay hot after blowing past the Pelicans in a 141-114 win on Saturday. Dillon Brooks led the team with 23 points and five assists, Ja Morant added 21 points with nine assists, Brandon Clarke scored 20 points on 10 of 10 shooting off the bench while Desmond Bane chipped in with 18 points on six of seven shooting. As a team, the Grizzlies shot a sizzling 58 percent from the field and an efficient 18 of 35 from the 3-point line as they dominated right from the start, pouring in 64 points in the first half to take a 17-point lead into halftime, before they exploded for a season-high 55 points in the third quarter to push the lead out to 43 points which allowed them to rest their starters early.
Looking at the betting trends, the Celtics are 7-1 ATS in their last eight road games, 7-1 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a winning record and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games overall. The Grizzlies are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 home games, 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record and 42-19-1 ATS in their last 62 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 16-5 in the last 21 meetings in Memphis, the Celtics are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Memphis and the Celtics are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings overall.
The Celtics will again be without Robert Williams and Nik Stauskas, while the Grizzlies are just about at full strength for this one with Ja Morant back in the lineup. There is certainly more at stake for the Celtics who can lock up the second seed with a win here, they are 7-1 ATS in their last eight road games and 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings overall. This should be a close one, but I’ll stick with the Celtics to escape with the important win in this one.
