The Minnesota Timberwolves play host to the San Antonio Spurs at the Target Center on Thursday night.
The San Antonio Spurs have been in great shape as they’ve won seven of their last eight games overall and they will be aiming for a fourth straight victory after routing the Nuggets in a 116-97 road win on Tuesday. Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell each scored 20 points, Josh Richardson added 18 points off the bench while Tyus Jones chipped in with 14 points and 10 assists. As a team, the Spurs shot 49 percent from the field and 12 of 26 from the 3-point line, but this win was all about their effort on the defensive end as they restricted the Nuggets to just 14 points in the second quarter to take a 20-point lead into halftime, before they went on a 14-2 run in the fourth quarter to make it a blowout.
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been in a slump as they’ve lost five of their last eight games and they will be hoping for a better performance in this one after getting thrashed by the lowly Wizards in a 132-114 loss on Tuesday. Karl-Anthony Towns led the team with 26 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, Anthony Edwards added 18 points with six rebounds and four assists while D’Angelo Russell tallied 17 points with 11 assists. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 45 percent from the field and 14 of 41 from the 3-point line as they kept pace with the Wizards in a close contest in the first half, before falling away in the second half as the Wizards’ bench players ran riot, outscoring the Timberwolves’ bench by 52-31.
Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record, 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall. The Timberwolves are 7-2 ATS in their last nine home games, 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 games against a team with a losing record and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the Spurs are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings in Minnesota and the Spurs are 0-7 ATS in the last seven meetings overall.
The Spurs are going to be shorthanded once again as Dejounte Murray and Jock Landale are both out while Lonnie Walker is questionable for this one. The Timberwolves will be keeping an eye on Jaden McDaniels and Patrick Beverley who are both questionable for this one. The Spurs deserve some credit for how well they’ve been playing lately, but they are only 0-7 ATS in the last seven meetings overall. The Timberwolves are also 7-2 ATS in their last nine home games, so I’ll take them to get the much-needed win and cover in this spot.
