The Memphis Grizzlies play host to the Phoenix Suns at the FedExForum on Friday night.
The Phoenix Suns have been on fire as they’ve won 13 of their last 15 games and they will be aiming for a 10th straight victory after sneaking past the Warriors in a 107-103 road win on Wednesday. Mikal Bridges and Devin Booker scored 22 points each, DeAndre Ayton added 16 points with 16 rebounds while Chris Paul tallied 15 points with eight assists. As a team, the Suns shot just 41 percent from the field and seven of 28 from the 3-point line as they went back and forth with the Warriors in a tightly-contested game until the fourth quarter where they closed the final 34.2 seconds on a 7-2 run to escape with the narrow win.
Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies have been in terrific shape as they’ve won 10 of their last 11 games and they will be eager to build on their current six-game win streak after taking down the Spurs in a 112-111 road win on Wednesday. Tyus Jones led the team with 25 points and six assists, Dillon Brooks added 21 points while Desmond Bane and DeAnthony Melton each scored 16 points. As a team, the Grizzlies shot 48 percent from the field and 16 of 39 from the 3-point line as they poured in 65 points in the first half to build an early 18-point lead which proved to be just enough in the end as the Spurs cut the lead to just one point with just 27.8 seconds left on the clock.
Looking at the betting trends, the Suns are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 7-2 ATS in their last nine games overall. The Grizzlies are 15-3 ATS in their last 18 home games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 40-18 ATS in their last 58 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 7-2 in the last nine meetings overall and the under is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Memphis.
The Suns have been a little banged up lately but the good news is that JaVale McGee and Cameron Johnson are both expected to return from injury, while the Grizzlies are keeping an eye on Tyus Jones, Jaren Jackson Jr, Desmond Bane and Steven Adams who are all listed as doubtful. This would’ve been a fantastic matchup if both teams were at full strength, but with the Grizzlies missing so many key players, I have to stick with the red-hot Suns to get the job done in this spot.
