The Philadelphia 76ers pay a visit to the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday night.
The Philadelphia 76ers have been in decent shape as they’ve won five of their last eight games overall, but they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after coming up painfully short to the Bucks in a 118-116 loss on Tuesday. James Harden led the team with 32 points and nine assists, Joel Embiid added 29 points with 14 rebounds and seven assists while Tobias Harris chipped in with 22 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. As a team, the 76ers shot 48 percent from the field and 16 of 41 from the 3-point line as they poured in 37 points in the second quarter to take an early 14-point lead, but they couldn’t keep that pace and eventually ran out of gas in the fourth quarter where the Bucks used a pivotal 27-11 run to snatch the game from them in the end. Tyrese Maxey had a rough night as he scored just seven points on three of 11 shooting while Georges Niang shot just three of nine for his nine points.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons have been in a major slump as they’ve lost nine of their last 11 games overall and they will be hoping to arrest a three-game skid after getting beaten by the Nets in a 130-123 road loss on Tuesday. Cade Cunningham led the team with 34 points and six assists on 13 of 24 shooting, Saddiq Bey and Isaiah Stewart each scored 15 points while Killian Hayes chipped in with 13 points off the bench. As a team, the Pistons shot 48 percent from the field and 16 of 38 from the 3-point line as they gpt off to a quick start and exploded for 64 points in the first half where they held an early 12-point lead, but their defense was the problem as they just had no answer for the Nets in the second half where they leaked 72 points. Cory Joseph had a night to forget as he scored just five points on one of seven shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the 76ers are 1-4-1 ATS in their last five road games, 0-4 ATS in their last four games against a team below .400 and 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Pistons are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games, 9-0 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a winning record and 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 7-0-1 in the last eight meetings overall and the 76ers are 12-4 ATS in the last 16 meetings overall.
The Pistons are going to be shorthanded once again as Chris Smith and Jerami Grant are both out while Cory Joseph is listed as day to day, while the 76ers are coming into this one at full strength and fresh off a heartbreaking loss to the Bucks in their last outing. It’s hard to imagine anything but a win for the 76ers in this meeting as they’re the only team with anything to play for at this point of the season and they will be kicking themselves after falling just short to the Bucks in a big game on Tuesday. The line is quite hefty, but the 76ers are 12-4 ATS in the last 16 meetings overall and I think they bounce back with a big win here.
