The Atlanta Hawks play host to the Cleveland Cavaliers at the State Farm Arena on Thursday night.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been in a slump as they’ve lost four of their last five games overall and they will be hoping to bounce back after last night’s 120-112 loss to the Mavericks. Caris LeVert led the team with 32 points, six rebounds and four assists, Darius Garland added 25 points with 10 assists and four steals while Lamar Stevens chipped in with 16 points off the bench. As a team, the Cavaliers shot 50 percent from the field and 11 of 25 from the 3-point line as they poured in 37 points in the second quarter to take the lead into halftime, but that lead quickly turned into a 15-point deficit in the third quarter where the Mavericks exploded for 39 points as they just had no answer for the Mavericks’ Luka Doncic who tortured them with a near triple-double.
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks have been in great shape as they’ve won eight of their last 11 games overall and they will be gunning for a fourth straight victory after routing the Thunder in a 136-118 road win last night. Trae Young led the team with 41 points and eight assists, Kevin Huerter and Bogdan Bogdanovic each scored 20 points while Kevin Knox chipped in with 17 points in just 18 minutes off the bench. As a team, the Hawks shot 53 percent from the field and 18 of 39 from the 3-point line as they dominated this one right from the start, exploding for 85 points in the first half, which allowed them to cruise in the second half and rest their starters a little early.
Looking at the betting trends, the Cavaliers are 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games, 0-6-1 ATS in their last seven games playing on zero days’ rest and 0-6 ATS in their last six games overall. The Hawks are 13-6 ATS in their last 19 home games, 1-6 ATS in their last seven games playing on zero days’ rest and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the under is 5-2 in the last seven meetings overall and the Cavaliers are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings overall.
The Cavaliers have been in a rut and they will again be shorthanded as Evan Mobley, Dean Wade and Jarrett Allen are still out, while the Hawks will be keeping an eye on Danilo Gallinari who is listed as day to day. The Cavaliers looked good at times in last night’s loss to the Mavericks, but the Hawks are clearly the team in better form at the moment and they were able to rest their starters early last night. The Cavaliers are 0-6 ATS in their last six games overall and I’m backing that trend to continue as the Hawks should be too good at home in this spot.
