The Denver Nuggets pay a visit to the Charlotte Hornets at the Spectrum Center on Monday night.
The Denver Nuggets have been in decent form as they’ve won four of their last seven games overall and they will be looking to stay hot after outlasting the Thunder in a 113-107 win on Saturday. Nikola Jokic led the team with 35 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists, Aaron Gordon added 20 points while Will Barton chipped in with 18 points and seven assists. As a team, the Nuggets shot 48 percent from the field and eight of 31 from the 3-point line as they got off to a quick start and built an early 16-point lead, but it wasn’t all smooth sailing as they had to rally late in the fourth quarter after the Thunder made a run to tie the scores. The Nuggets’ bench never quite clicked in this one as no reserve player finished in double figures in scoring, but Jokic was unstoppable as he shot 13 of 15 from the field.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been on fire as they’ve won seven of their last eight games overall and they will be eager to stay hot after taking down the Nets in a 119-110 road win last night. LaMelo Ball led the team with 33 points, seven rebounds and nine assists, Miles Bridges added 24 points while PJ Washington chipped in with 18 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. As a team, the Hornets shot just 42 percent from the field and a sizzling 17 of 32 from the 3-point line as they exploded for 37 points in the third quarter to overcome an early 14-point deficit, before they won behind their defense as they held the Nets to just six points in the final 4:04 to pull away and escape with the statement win.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nuggets are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 road games, 1-6 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. The Hornets are 2-7-2 ATS in their last 11 games as an underdog, 5-13-1 ATS in their last 19 home games and 0-4 ATS in their last four games playing on zero days’ rest.
Head to head, the over is 6-2 in the last eight meetings overall and the Nuggets are 0-5 ATS in the last five meetings in Charlotte.
The Nuggets are going to be shorthanded in this one as Michael Porter Jr. is still out while Facundo Campazzo and JaMychal Green are both listed as questionable. The Hornets are coming into this one almost at full strength, they’ve been playing their best basketball of the season and they just took down the red-hot Nets. You can make an argument for either side here, but the Nuggets were far from convincing in their narrow win over the depleted Thunder on Saturday and they are only 0-5 ATS in the last five meetings in Charlotte. I’m leaning towards the Hornets to pull off the minor upset at home.
Peter’s Pick Charlotte +3.5
