The Golden State Warriors invade the Capital One Arena to take on the Washington Wizards on Sunday night.
The Golden State Warriors have been in a rut as they’ve lost four of their last five games and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting stopped by the Hawks in a 121-110 road loss on Friday. Klay Thompson drained nine 3-pointers to lead the team with 37 points on 14 of 26 shooting, Jordan Poole added 24 points with 10 assists while Gary Payton chipped in with 14 points off the bench. As a team, the Warriors shot 47 percent from the field and 14 of 41 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 42 points in the first quarter to take the early lead, but they couldn’t maintain that pace and were always fighting a losing battle after getting outscored by 32-16 in the third quarter to trail by as many as 18 points.
Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards have been in a slump as they’ve lost eight of their last 10 games, but they will be feeling much better after taking down the Pistons in a 100-97 road win on Friday. Kristaps Porzingis led the team with 30 points, 10 rebounds and three assists, Deni Avdija added 21 points with 10 rebounds and four assists while Rui Hachimura chipped in with 11 points. As a team, the Wizards shot 43 percent from the field and nine of 30 from the 3-point line as they squandered an early 17-point lead to trail late in the fourth quarter, before Porzingis and Avdija scored the last four points in the game to snatch the game from the Pistons in the final seconds.
Looking at the betting trends, the Warriors are 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a losing record, 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games following a loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. The Wizards are 5-14-1 ATS in their last 20 home games, 3-9-1 ATS in their last 13 games against a team with a winning record and 16-33-2 ATS in their last 51 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings overall and the Warriors are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Washington.
The Warriors will again be without Stephen Curry and Andre Iguodala is currently listed as questionable, while the Wizards have already ruled out Kyle Kuzma for this one, but they should have Daniel Gafford back in the lineup. The Warriors haven’t been able to get anything going lately, but Thompson is starting to heat up now, so I’m going to back them against this slumping Wizards who were ice-cold before their narrow win over the slumping Pistons.
