The Utah Jazz and the Charlotte Hornets duke it out at the Spectrum Center on Friday night.
The Utah Jazz have been in decent shape as they’ve won four of their last seven games overall, but they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after getting blown out by the red-hot Celtics in a 125-97 road loss on Wednesday. Donovan Mitchell led the team with 37 points on 13 of 24 shooting, Rudy Gobert added 14 points with 11 rebounds while Eric Paschall chipped in with 11 points. As a team, the Jazz shot just 39 percent from the field and eight of 36 from the 3-point line but their problems were on the defensive end as they allowed the Celtics to pour in 68 points in the first half and shoot almost 60 percent from the field for the game. Jordan Clarkson scored just 10 points from the bench while Mike Conley finished with just nine points.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets were enjoying a five-game win streak before they got stopped in their tracks by the Knicks in a 121-106 loss on Wednesday. LaMelo Ball led the team with 32 points, nine rebounds and five assists, Terry Rozier added 18 points while Miles Bridges chipped in with 15 points and nine assists. As a team, the Hornets shot 47 percent from the field and 13 of 46 from the 3-point line as they allowed the Knicks to get off to a flyer and were always fighting an uphill battle after falling behind by 20 points early in the second quarter. The Hornets got next to no support from their bench as Isaiah Thomas scored just five points on two of nine shooting while Cody Martin scored just four points on two of seven shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Jazz are 1-7 ATS in their last eight road games, 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 1-6-1 ATS in their last eight games overall. The Hornets are 4-13-1 ATS in their last 18 home games, 3-8-2 ATS in their last 13 games against a team with a winning record and 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine games as a home underdog.
Head to head, the over is 5-1 in the last six meetings in Charlotte and the Jazz are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings overall.
The Jazz are going to be shorthanded once again as Bojan Bogdanovic is still out while Hassan Whiteside is listed as questionable due to a strained right foot. The Hornets were in great shape before getting stopped in their tracks by the Knicks in their last outing, so they will be keen to get back in the win column in this one. The Jazz have been well below their best lately and they will surely come out firing in this one after getting embarrassed by the Celtics on Wednesday. You can make an argument for either side here, but I’ll stick with the Jazz to get the job done in a close one.
