The New Orleans Pelicans pay a visit to the Charlotte Hornets at the Spectrum Center on Monday night.
The New Orleans Pelicans have been in decent shape as they’ve won three of their last four games overall and they will be looking to stay hot after outlasting the Hawks in a 117-112 road win last night. Jonas Valanciunas led the team with 26 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, CJ McCollum added 25 points with eight assists while Willy Hernangomez chipped in with 17 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. As a team, the Pelicans shot 44 percent from the field and seven of 21 from the 3-point line as they squandered an early 19-point lead, but they regrouped and closed the final 1:12 on a 7-2 run to escape with the narrow win in the end.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been in fine form as they’ve won six of their last eight games overall and they will be aiming for a fifth straight victory after routing the Mavericks in a 129-108 home win on Saturday. Miles Bridges led the team in scoring with 23 points, PJ Washington added 21 points, Terry Rozier scored 18 points while LaMelo Ball and Kelly Oubre Jr. each scored 17 points. As a team, the Hornets shot 50 percent from the field and a sizzling 20 of 42 from the 3-point line as they jumped all over the Mavericks and took the early double-digit lead, before exploding for 41 points in the third quarter to lead by as many as 32 points at one stage.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pelicans are 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a losing record, 2-6 ATS in their last eight games playing on zero day’s rest and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Hornets are 4-11-1 ATS in their last 16 home games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record and 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall.
Head to head, the under is 4-0 in the last four meetings in Charlotte and the Pelicans are 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings in Charlotte.
The Pelicans will again be without Brandon Ingram while Devonte’ Graham is listed as day to day. The Hornets are coming into this game with plenty of momentum as they’ve been playing some of their best basketball of the season and they just made like work of the red-hot Mavericks in their last outing. The Pelicans haven’t been as hot, but they’re starting to build some momentum and they will take plenty of confidence from last night’s win over the Hawks. This is a tough one to pick, but there’s a little more to like about the Hornets who have the advantage of extra rest and home court advantage in this spot.
