The Houston Rockets play host to the Los Angeles Lakers at the Toyota Center on Wednesday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been in terrible shape as they’ve lost eight of their past 10 games overall, and they will be hoping to bounce back in this one after coming up short to the Spurs in a 117-110 road loss on Monday. Talen Horton-Tucker led the team with 18 points, Russell Westbrook, Malik Monk and Carmelo Anthony each scored 17 points while Austin Reaves chipped in with 13 points. As a team, the Lakers shot 47 percent from the field and eight of 26 from the 3-point line as they poured in 36 points in the third quarter to rally back from an early 14-point deficit, only to go ice-cold in the fourth quarter where they managed just 18 points to allow the Spurs to slip away in the end.
Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets have lost 17 of their last 19 games overall and they will be hoping for a better showing after getting blown out by the Heat in a 123-106 road loss on Monday. Kevin Porter Jr. led the team with 22 points, Jalen Green added 20 points on eight of 16 shooting while Alperen Sengun chipped in with 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists. As a team, the Rockets shot 44 percent from the field and 13 of 43 from the 3-point line as they poured in 32 points in the first quarter to jump out to an early 13-point lead, but that didn’t last long at all as the Heat responded with 37 points in the second quarter before making it a blowout in the second half. Garrison Matthews stepped up for Eric Gordon who was rested for this one but finished scoreless on zero of five shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 0-4 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games overall. The Rockets are 20-49 ATS in their last 69 home games, 15-40 ATS in their last 55 games against a team with a losing record and 10-25 ATS in their last 35 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 9-4 in the last 13 meetings overall, the Lakers are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings overall and the Lakers are 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings in Houston.
The Lakers desperately need a win to get their season back on track, but they could be shorthanded in this one as LeBron James is currently listed as questionable for this one. The Rockets will also be shorthanded as Dennis Schroder, Christian Wood and Garrison Matthews are all currently listed as questionable. The Lakers have been in terrible shape and they’re so much weaker when James doesn’t suit up, but the Rockets have been ice-cold and they could be shorthanded here, so I think the Lakers are worth a shot at the short line.
