The Minnesota Timberwolves play host to the Portland Trail Blazers at the Target Center on Monday night.
The Portland Trail Blazers have been in a rut as they’re currently riding a four-game losing streak and they will be hoping for a better showing after getting routed by the Timberwolves in a 135-121 road loss on Saturday. Anfernee Simons drained nine 3-pointers to lead the team with 38 points on 11 of 25 shooting, Brandon Williams added 21 points off the bench, Keon Johnson scored 15 points with five assists while Drew Eubanks chipped in with 13 points on six of seven shooting. As a team, the Trail Blazers shot 47 percent from the field and 16 of 38 from the 3-point line as they poured in 34 points in the first quarter to take the narrow lead into halftime, before getting run off the floor in the second half where the Timberwolves exploded for 72 points.
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been in fine form as they’ve won seven of their last nine games overall and they will be aiming for a fifth straight victory after taking down the Trail Blazers on Saturday. Karl-Anthony Towns led the team with 36 points, 15 rebounds and five assists, Jaden McDaniels and Malik Beasley each scored 16 points while Jaylen Nowell chipped in with 22 points off the bench. As a team, the Timberwolves shot a healthy 56 percent from the field and 15 of 37 from the 3-point line as they went back and forth with the Trail Blazers in a tightly contested first half, before they took full control in the third quarter where they poured in 46 points. Towns barely missed all night as he made 13 of 17 from the field while Nowell was the real spark off the bench as he shot eight of 13 in just 24 minutes of action.
Looking at the betting trends, the Trail Blazers are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games following a loss of more than 10 points, 0-4 ATS in their last four games against a team with a winning record and 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall. The Timberwolves are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 home games, 3-0-1 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record and 5-0 ATS in their last five games against a team below .400.
Head to head, the over is 17-6 in the last 23 meetings in Minnesota, the Trail Blazers are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings in Minnesota and the Trail Blazers are 41-18-2 ATS in the last 61 meetings overall.
The Trail Blazers come into this one with a total of 11 players on the injury report including Eric Bledsoe, Anfernee Simons, Justise Winslow and Jusuf Nurkic who are all out, while the Timberwolves have already ruled Anthony Edwards out while Taurean Prince, Patrick Beverley and Naz Reid are all questionable for this one. The Trail Blazers did a nice job of hanging with the Timberwolves for three quarters, but that was mostly due to Simons’ 38 points and he won’t be available in this one. Both teams are missing so many players, but the Timberwolves still have Towns and Russell which should be more than enough to get the job done at home.
