The Memphis Grizzlies and the Houston Rockets collide at the Toyota Center on Sunday night.
The Memphis Grizzlies have been in great shape as they’ve won nine of their past 12 games overall and they will be eager to stay hot after blowing past the Magic in a 124-96 home win last night. Ja Morant led the team with 25 points and seven assists, Desmond Bane added 24 points on 10 of 15 shooting while Tyus Jones chipped in with 14 points off the bench. As a team, the Grizzlies shot 50 percent from the field and 14 of 34 from the 3-point line as they took full control of the game with a dominant 37-16 second quarter to lead by 23 points at halftime which allowed them to cruise in the second half and rest their starters early.
Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets have been in dreadful form as they’ve lost 16 of their last 17 games overall and they will be hoping to put an end to a 12-game losing streak after getting routed by the Nuggets in a 116-101 road loss on Friday. Christian Wood led the team with 22 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, Jalen Green added 18 points with seven assists while Eric Gordon and Alperen Sengun each scored 11 points. As a team, the Rockets shot 45 percent from the field and 10 of 36 from the 3-point line as they struggled to get going and scored just 20 points in the second quarter to fall behind going into halftime and things only got worse in the third quarter where they allowed 36 points to trail by as many as 20 points at one stage.
Looking at the betting trends, the Grizzlies are 20-6 ATS in their last 26 road games, 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games against a team with a losing record and 35-16 ATS in their last 51 games overall. The Rockets are 17-44 ATS in their last 61 home games, 5-12 ATS in their last 17 games against a team with a winning record and 9-24 ATS in their last 33 games overall.
Dennis Schroder is listed as questionable for this one which is bad news for the Rockets who can barely buy a win these days. The Grizzlies have their own injuries as Dillon Brooks is still out, but they’ve been one of the hottest teams in the Western Conference, so I’m not afraid to back them even though they’re playing the second game of a back to back set. The Grizzlies were able to rest their starters early last night and I think it comes in handy as they dominate this one.
