The Brooklyn Nets pay a visit to the Boston Celtics at the TD Garden on Sunday afternoon.
The Brooklyn Nets have been in a slump as they’ve lost five of their last six games overall and they will be hoping to snap a three-game skid after getting stopped by the Heat in a 113-107 loss on Thursday. Kevin Durant led the team with 31 points on 10 of 21 shooting, Bruce Brown added 21 points while Patty Mills chipped in with 14 points off the bench. As a team, the Nets shot 47 percent from the field and 12 of 31 from the 3-point line as they hit the ground running and poured in 35 points in the first quarter to take an early 16-point lead, but it didn’t last long at all as their lead disappeared in the third quarter where they managed just 17 points. Seth Curry finished with just eight points on three of 10 shooting while Cam Thomas scored just six points on two of eight shooting.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics have been in red-hot form as they’ve won 13 of their last 15 games overall and they will be gunning for a third straight victory after routing the Grizzlies in a 120-107 home win on Thursday. Jayson Tatum led the team with 37 points with six rebounds and five assists, Al Horford added 21 points with 15 rebounds and five assists, Marcus Smart scored 18 points with 12 assists while Robert Williams chipped in with 10 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks. As a team, the Celtics shot 51 percent from the field and 16 of 37 from the 3-point line as they went back and forth with the Grizzlies in a tightly contested first half, before they got loose and exploded for 73 points in the second half to win comfortably in the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nets are 4-0-1 ATS in their last five road games, 5-12-1 ATS in their last 18 games against a team with a winning record and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games playing on two days’ rest. The Celtics are 2-6 ATS in their last eight games playing on two days’ rest and 8-25-1 ATS in their last 34 games following a win of more than 10 points.
Head to head, the over is 6-1 in the last seven meetings overall and the Nets are 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings overall.
The Nets will again be without Ben Simmons and Joe Harris while Seth Curry is listed as day to day, while the Celtics have listed Jaylen Brown as questionable for this one as they continue to monitor his ankle sprain. The Nets need a win to get their season back on track, but I don’t think this confident Celtics team who have quietly been one of the hottest teams in the league. This should be a close one, but I have the Celtics getting the win and cover at home.
