The Boston Celtics play host to the Memphis Grizzlies at the TD Garden on Thursday night.
The Memphis Grizzlies have been in great shape as they’ve won 11 of their past 14 games overall and they will be aiming for a third straight win after routing the Spurs in a 118-105 home win on Monday. Ja Morant led the team with 52 points on 22 of 30 shooting, De’Anthony Melton added 15 points off the bench while Tyus Jones chipped in with 13 points. As a team, the Grizzlies shot 53 percent from the field and 11 of 26 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 42 points in the first quarter to take a 10-point lead into halftime, before pulling away in the fourth quarter where they kept the Spurs to just 20 points.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics have been on fire as they’ve won 14 of their past 17 games overall and they will be eager to stay hot after blowing past the Hawks in a 107-98 home win on Tuesday. Jayson Tatum led the team with 33 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, Grant Williams and Derrick White each scored 18 points while Marcus Smart chipped in with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists. As a team, the Celtics shot 47 percent from the field and 11 of 35 from the 3-point line as they got off to a sluggish start and trailed by 17 points in the first half, but they made the adjustments in the halftime break and dominated the rest of the way to win comfortably in the end after outscoring the Hawks by 31-13 in the pivotal third quarter.
Looking at the betting trends, the Grizzlies are 35-17 ATS in their last 52 road games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a win of more than 10 points and 35-16 ATS in their last 51 games overall. The Celtics are 23-9-1 ATS in their last 33 games as a home underdog and 5-1 ATS in their last six games playing on one days’ rest.
Head to head, the over is 23-6 in the last 29 meetings overall, the Grizzlies are 3-8 ATS in the last 11 meetings overall and the Grizzlies are 16-6 ATS in the last 22 meetings in Boston.
The Celtics would’ve opened as favorites if Jaylen Brown wasn’t out with an ankle sprain, but instead, they’re slight underdogs at home against the surging Grizzlies. You can make an argument for either side as the Grizzlies have a red-hot Morant to lead the way, while the Celtics have Tatum who is more than capable of carrying the scoring load in the absence of Brown. This is a tough one to pick, but the Grizzlies are 16-6 ATS in the last 22 meetings in Boston and I think they can stay hot with another win and cover here.
