The Detroit Pistons and the Charlotte Hornets duke it out at the Spectrum Center on Sunday night.
The Detroit Pistons have lost 13 of their last 16 games overall, but they were aiming for a season-high third straight win before getting stopped in their tracks by the Celtics in a 113-104 home loss last night. Cade Cunningham led the team with 25 points despite battling foul trouble, Cory Joseph added 15 points while Marvin Bagley chipped in with 14 points off the bench. As a team, the Pistons shot 44 percent from the field and just seven of 27 from the 3-point line as they kept pace with the Celtics in a tight contest, until the fourth quarter where the Celtics used a 17-6 run to pull away and escape with the game in the end. Jerami Grant had a night to forget as he scored just 11 points on three of 15 shooting from the field and zero of six shooting from the 3-point line.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been in a real slump as they’ve lost nine of their past 11 games overall, but they will be hoping to build some momentum after making light work of the Raptors in a 125-93 home win on Friday. Terry Rozier led the team with 23 points and nine assists, Kelly Oubre added 23 points off the bench, Montrezl Harrell scored 20 points with 10 rebounds while LaMelo Ball chipped in with 13 points and six assists. As a team, the Hornets shot a healthy 55 percent from the field and 15 of 40 from the 3-point line as they dominated right from the start, exploding for 42 points in the second quarter to take a 23-point lead into halftime, before outscoring the Raptors by 27-14 in the third quarter to push the margin out to 41 points at one stage.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pistons are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games as an underdog, 1-4 ATS in their last five road games and 0-4 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record. The Hornets are 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10 home games and 2-5-2 ATS in their last nine games overall.
Head to head, the under is 10-3-1 in the last 14 meetings overall, the Pistons are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings in Charlotte and the Pistons are 2-9 ATS in the last 11 meetings overall.
The Pistons started to build some nice momentum with two wins on the trot and they were right in the contest against the Celtics last night, so they may be turning over a new leaf. Meanwhile, the Hornets were one of the coldest teams in the league before ambushing the Raptors with a 32-point blowout win on Friday. I can see the Hornets getting the win at home, but with the line so hefty, I have to lean towards the Pistons and the points after what I’ve seen from them in their last three outings.
