The Miami Heat and the New York Knicks duke it out at Madison Square Garden on Friday night.
The Miami Heat have been in fine form as they’ve won six of their past seven games overall and they will be hoping to stay hot after outlasting the Hornets in a 111-107 double overtime road win on Thursday. Kyle Lowry led the team with 25 points, nine rebounds and five assists, Duncan Robinson added 21 points while PJ Tucker, Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler each scored 15 points. As a team, the Heat shot just 40 percent from the field and 14 of 48 from the 3-point line as they rallied back from an early 14-point deficit in regulation, before going on a decisive 7-0 run in the second overtime period to pull away and escape with the narrow victory.
Meanwhile, the New York Knicks have been in a terrible slump as they’ve lost seven of their last eight games overall and they will be hoping to snap a three-game skid after getting stopped by the Nets in a 111-106 loss last Wednesday. Julius Randle led the team with 31 points, 10 rebounds and three assists, Immanuel Quickley added 18 points off the bench while Evan Fournier chipped in with 16 points on six of 17 shooting. As a team, the Knicks shot just 43 percent from the field and 16 of 43 from the 3-point line as they hit the ground running and exploded for 38 points in the first quarter to lead by as many as 28 points, before getting run down in the fourth quarter where they got outscored by 38-19 as they just had no answer for the Nets’ Cam Thomas down the stretch.
Looking at the betting trends, the Heat are 4-0-1 ATS in their last five road games, 3-0-1 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record and 44-21 ATS in their last 65 games playing on three or more days rest. The Knicks are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record, 1-6 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and 1-7 ATS in their last eight games overall.
Head to head, the under is 19-7 in the last 26 meetings in New York, the Heat are 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings overall and the Heat are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in New York.
The Heat will again be without Markieff Morris and Victor Oladipo, while the Knicks are again missing Derrick Rose and Kemba Walker, while Nerlens Noel and RJ Barrett are both listed as questionable for this one. The Knicks will be desperate to get a much-needed win to wash the taste of bitter defeat out of their mouths, but they’ve run into the wrong team as the Heat have been one of the most consistent teams all season. This should be a close one, but the Heat are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in New York and I think they represent decent value at the short line in this spot.
