The Brooklyn Nets play host to the Boston Celtics at the Barclays Center on Thursday night.
The Boston Celtics have been in red-hot form as they’ve won 11 of their past 13 games overall and they will be hoping to bounce back after having their nine-game win streak halted by the lowly Pistons in a 112-111 home loss last Wednesday. Jaylen Brown led the team with 31 points and six assists, Jayson Tatum added 22 points, Al Horford scored 19 points with seven assists while Grant Williams chipped in with 17 points. As a team, the Celtics shot a healthy 54 percent from the field and 13 of 32 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in control after leading for most of the game, before coming up painfully short in the end as the Pistons stole the game on a clutch go-ahead basket from Jerami Grant with just 19.6 seconds remaining. Derrick White scored just nine points on three of 10 shooting while the bench combined for just 13 points.
Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets have been in terrible shape as they’ve lost 12 of their past 14 games overall and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting routed by the Wizards in a 117-103 home loss on Thursday. Patty Mills led the team in scoring with 22 points on eight of 14 shooting, Cam Thomas added 20 points off the bench while LaMarcus Aldridge chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Nets shot just 40 percent from the field and 14 of 38 from the 3-point line as they did a decent job of staying in the contest, until the fourth quarter where the Wizards exploded for 39 points to pull away and make it a blowout in the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Celtics are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games, 5-1 ATS in their last six games as a road favorite and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games playing on three or more days’ rest. The Nets are 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record, 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 home games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the under is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings in Brooklyn, the Celtics are 1-9 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Brooklyn and the Celtics are 2-8 ATS in the last 10 meetings overall.
The Nets will again be missing Ben Simmons, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, while the Celtics are just about at full strength which is massive at this point of the season. The Nets will be a powerhouse once they have all the pieces on the court, but until then, I’m going to be fading them against the elite teams in the league like the Celtics are at the moment. I think the Celtics stay hot with another win and cover in this spot.
