The Miami Heat and the Charlotte Hornets duke it out at the Spectrum Center on Thursday night.
The Miami Heat have been in great shape as they’ve won 10 of their past 15 games overall, but they will be hoping to bounce back in this one after having their five-game win streak halted by the Mavericks in a 107-99 home loss on Tuesday. Jimmy Butler led the team with 29 points and 10 rebounds, Bam Adebayo added 21 points with 12 rebounds and two blocks while Kyle Lowry chipped in with 13 points. As a team, the Heat shot just 41 percent from the field and seven of 27 from the 3-point line as they got off to a solid start and looked to be in control after taking an eight-point lead into halftime, but they went ice-cold from the perimeter in the second half where they got outscored by 56-40. Gabe Vincent had a night to forget as he finished with just four points on one of nine shooting from the field and zero of seven shooting from the 3-point line, while Duncan Robinson scored just five points on two of six shooting.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been in a terrible slump as they’ve lost eight of their past nine games overall and they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after coming up short against the Timberwolves in a 126-120 overtime road loss on Tuesday. Miles Bridges led the team with 28 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists, Terry Rozier added 25 points with five assists, LaMelo Ball tallied 22 points with nine rebounds and six assists while Mason Plumlee chipped in with 14 points, 17 rebounds and nine assists. As a team, the Hornets shot just 41 percent from the field and eight of 33 from the 3-point line as they squandered a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter, before allowing the Timberwolves to open the overtime period on a 10-2 run to finish on the wrong side of the scoreboard.
Looking at the betting trends, the Heat are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games, 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a losing record and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following a loss. The Hornets are 0-8 ATS in their last eight home games, 0-5-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record and 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings overall, the Heat are 11-5-1 ATS in the last 17 meetings overall and the Heat are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings in Charlotte.
The Heat could be shorthanded in this one as Tyler Herro is still out, while Caleb Martin and Jimmy Butler are both listed as questionable. The Hornets will again be missing Jalen McDaniels, Cody Martin and Gordon Hayward. The Heat are coming into this meeting a lot more banged up than the Hornets, but they’ve been able to consistently win games despite their injuries all season and you can’t say the same about the Hornets who are mired in their worst slump of the season despite having all their key players available. This should be a close one, but the Heat will be disappointed with their second-half performance on Tuesday and I think they bounce back with a hard-fought win in this one.
