The Dallas Mavericks and the New Orleans Pelicans duke it out at the Smoothie King Center on Thursday night.
The Dallas Mavericks have been in great shape as they’ve won five of their past six games overall and they will be looking to stay hot after taking down the Heat in a 107-99 road win on Tuesday. Luka Doncic led the team with 21 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, Jalen Brunson added 19 points with six assists, Maxi Kleber scored 19 points with five blocks while Dorian Finney-Smith chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Mavericks shot 44 percent from the field and 18 of 41 from the 3-point line as they struggled to keep up with the Heat in the first half and trailed by eight points at halftime, before they came out with a better defensive mindset to hold the Heat to just 40 points in the second half to make it look easy in the end. Doncic could never find any rhythm on offense as he shot just five of 19 from the field, but they really moved the ball as a team to finish with 27 assists on 34 field goals which was the difference in a close one.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans have been in decent shape as they’ve won five of their past eight games overall, but they will be hoping to bounce back in this one after getting routed by the shorthanded Grizzlies in a 121-109 home loss on Tuesday. CJ McCollum led the team with 30 points and seven assists, Jonas Valanciunas added 19 points on seven of 11 shooting while Brandon Ingram chipped in with 18 points. As a team, the Pelicans shot 50 percent from the field and a miserly four of 26 from the 3-point line as they as they allowed the Grizzlies off to a quick start to trail by 12 points at halftime and things only got worse in the second half where they fell behind by as many as 20 points. Devonte’ Graham had a rough night as he finished with just four points on one of six shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Mavericks are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games against a team with a losing home record and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall. The Pelicans are 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight home games, 2-6 ATS in their last eight games following a loss of more than 10 points and 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games against a team with a winning road record.
Head to head, the over is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings in New Orleans, the Mavericks are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings overall and the Mavericks are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in New Orleans.
The Mavericks could be shorthanded for this one as Frank Ntilikina, Trey Burke and Reggie Bullock are all listed as questionable while the Pelicans are almost at full strength except for Larry Nance Jr. and Zion Williamson who are both still out. The Mavericks look to be in a groove now and they would’ve taken so much confidence from their comeback win over the Heat on Tuesday, The Mavericks are also 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in New Orleans, so I’m sticking with the favorites at the short line.
