The San Antonio Spurs invade the Smoothie King Center to battle the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday night.
The San Antonio Spurs have been in a rut as they’ve lost four of their past six games overall, but they will be looking to stay hot after blowing past the Hawks in a 136-121 road win last night. Dejounte Murray led the team with a monster triple-double of 32 points with 10 rebounds and 15 assists, Keldon Johnson added 26 points with five assists while Devin Vassell chipped in with 20 points on nine of 13 shooting. As a team, the Spurs shot 55 percent from the field and 18 of 32 from the 3-point line as they took advantage of some porous defense from the Hawks and poured in 73 points in the first half to build an early 26-point lead which allowed them to cruise in the second half where they were hardly threatened.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans were on a nice run of four wins on the trot before getting stopped in their tracks by the Heat in a 112-97 home loss on Thursday. Jose Alvarado led the team with 17 points on seven of 12 shooting off the bench, Jonas Valanciunas and Devonte’ Graham each scored 16 points while Brandon Ingram and CJ McCollum each scored 15 points. As a team, the Pelicans shot 42 percent from the field and 11 of 41 from the 3-point line as they kept pace with the Heat in a closely contested first half, before getting blown out in the second half where they managed just 42 points. McCollum had a rough shooting night as he shot just six of 21 from the field, while Garrett Temple finished with just three points on one of five shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record and 1-7 ATS in their last eight road games against a team with a losing home record. The Pelicans are 1-3-1 ATS in their last five home games, 4-0-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the under is 5-0 in the last five meetings overall, the Spurs are 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings in New Orleans and the Spurs are 6-0 ATS in the last six meetings overall.
The Spurs haven’t been able to get on a roll at all this season, but they’re coming into this one with plenty of confidence after dominating the Hawks in a big win last night. The Pelicans came to life with four wins in a row before falling back down to Earth in a big loss to the Heat on Thursday. You couldn’t bet on either team with much confidence, but the Spurs looked fantastic in their win over the Hawks last night and they are 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings in New Orleans, so I’m taking the Spurs even though they're playing on zero days' rest.
