The Denver Nuggets and the Toronto Raptors collide at the Scotiabank Arena on Saturday night.
The Denver Nuggets have been in decent shape as they’ve won seven of their past 11 games, but they will be hoping to bounce back in this one after coming up short against the Celtics in a 108-102 road loss last night. Nikola Jokic led the team with a triple-double of 23 points with 16 rebounds and 11 assists, Aaron Gordon added 17 points while Frank Campazzo chipped in with 14 points off the bench. As a team, the Nuggets shot 43 percent from the field and 11 of 44 from the 3-point line as they struggled in the early going and trailed by 11 points in the first half, but they worked their way back into the contest and closed the game with a 13-6 run in the final 3:29 to escape with the hard-fought win.
Meanwhile, the Toronto Raptors have been in red-hot form as they’ve won 10 of their past 12 games overall and they will be gunning for a ninth straight victory after blowing past the lowly Rockets in a 139-120 road win on Thursday. Gary Trent Jr. led the team with 42 points, four assists and five steals, Pascal Siakam added 30 points on 13 of 19 shooting while Chris Boucher chipped in with 16 points off the bench. As a team, the Raptors shot 54 percent from the field and 15 of 39 from the 3-point line as they outscored the Rockets by 36-23 in the second quarter and they never took their foot off the gas as they rode the hot hand of Trent Jr down the stretch.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nuggets are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five road games, 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven games playing on zero days’ rest and 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight games overall. The Raptors are 15-3 ATS in their last 18 home games, 20-6 ATS in their last 26 games against a team with a winning record and 23-6 ATS in their last 29 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 8-1 in the last eight meetings in Toronto, the Nuggets are 21-7 ATS in the last 28 meetings overall and the Nuggets are 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings in Toronto.
The Nuggets were on a nice run before getting stopped in their tracks by the Celtics in a close one last night, but they won’t have any time to feel sorry for themselves as they travel to take on the Raptors who have been playing some of their best basketball of the season. The Nuggets are 21-7 ATS in the last 28 meetings overall, but they’re playing on zero days’ rest, so I’d rather lean towards the Raptors to get the statement win at home in this spot behind a big game from Siakam.
