The Brooklyn Nets and the Washington Wizards duke it out at the Capital One Arena on Thursday night.
The Brooklyn Nets have been mired in their worst slump in years as they’re now riding a nine-game losing streak after getting completely blown out by the Celtics in a 126-91 home loss on Tuesday. Jevon Carter drained seven 3-pointers to lead the team with 21 points off the bench, James Johnson and Cam Thomas each scored 17 points while David Duke Jr. chipped in with 13 points, but no other player finished in double figures. As a team, the Nets shot just 38 percent from the field and 10 of 36 from the 3-point line, but they were just never in the contest after falling behind by 69-43 going into halftime. The Nets’ starters combined for just 21 points with DeAndre Bembry scoring just six points on three of 12 shooting while Patty Mills scored just five points on two of eight shooting.
Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards have been in a slump of their own as they’ve lost eight of their past nine games and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting routed by the Heat in a 121-100 home loss on Monday. Corey Kispert led the team with 20 points off the bench, Aaron Holiday added 14 points while Montrezl Harrell chipped in with 13 points off the bench. As a team, the Wizards shot 45 percent from the field and seven of 31 from the 3-point line as they worked hard to cut an early 17-point deficit to just seven points going into halftime, only to get blown out in the third quarter where they managed just 17 points to trail by as many as 35 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nets are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a losing record, 0-4 ATS in their last four road games and 5-16-1 ATS in their last 22 games overall. The Wizards are 1-10 ATS in their last 11 home games, 1-6 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and 8-22-1 ATS in their last 31 games overall.
Head to head, the Nets are 5-16 ATS in the last 21 meetings in Washington.
The Nets are going to be shorthanded again as James Harden, kevin Durant and LaMarcus Aldridge are all out while Nic Claxton is listed as questionable. The Wizards will again be without Daniel Gafford and Bradley Beal, so they’re going to need others like Harrell and Kuzma. The Nets could really do with a win to get their season back on track and you could say the same about the Wizards who have been terrible since Beal went down. You couldn’t bet on either team with much confidence these days, but the Wizards are 1-10 ATS in their last 11 home games, so I’m leaning towards the Nets to prevail in a close one.
