The San Antonio Spurs and the Cleveland Cavaliers duke it out at the Rockets Mortgage Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.
The San Antonio Spurs have been in a real funk lately as they’ve lost six of their past nine games, but they will be looking to build some momentum after stopping a three-game skid with a 131-106 home win over the Rockets on Friday. Keldon Johnson led the team with 28 points on 11 of 17 shooting, Jakob Poeltl added 21 points with 10 rebounds and three blocks while Doug McDermott and Dejounte Murray each scored 19 points. As a team, the Spurs shot a sizzling 57 percent from the field and 13 of 28 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 33 points in the first quarter to take the early lead, before running away with it in the second half where they poured in 74 points.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been in great shape as they’ve won 11 of their past 14 games overall and they will be aiming for a third straight win after routing the Pacers in a 98-85 home win on Sunday. Cedi Osman led the team with 22 points and five assists off the bench, Jarrett Allen and Rajon Rondo each scored 15 points while Kevin Love chipped in with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists. As a team, the Cavaliers shot just 40 percent from the field and 11 of 32 from the 3-point line as they struggled to get going and managed just 12 points in the first quarter to fall behind by 20 points early on, but they regrouped and flipped a switch in the fourth quarter where they explode for 37 points to win comfortably in the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 18-8 ATS in their last 26 games playing on three or more days’ rest and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record. The Cavaliers are 12-5-1 ATS in their last 18 home games and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a losing record.
Head to head, the over is 20-7-1 in the last 28 meetings overall, the Spurs are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall and the Spurs are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Cleveland.
The Spurs could be a little shorthanded in this one as Tre Jones and Lonnie Walker are both listed as questionable, while the Cavaliers are still without Lauri Markkanen, Darius Garland is questionable, while the newly acquired Caris LeVert is listed as day to day. The Spurs were in a real slump before snapping out of it with a big win over the lowly Rockets, while the Cavaliers have been consistently solid all season and they just held the Pacers to 85 points in a dominant win on Sunday. This should be a close one, but I’m sticking with the more reliable Cavaliers to get the job done at home in this spot.
