The Miami Heat invade the Capital One Arena to take on the Washington Wizards on Monday night.
The Miami Heat have been in fine form as they’ve won 11 of their past 16 games overall and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after routing the Hornets in a 104-86 road win on Saturday. Jimmy Butler led the team with 27 points on 10 of 13 shooting, Bam Adebayo added 20 points with 12 rebounds, three assists and two blocks while Tyler Herro chipped in with 19 points off the bench. As a team, the Heat shot just 41 percent from the field and 11 of 32 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in trouble after scoring just 15 points in the second quarter to fall behind going into halftime, before flipping the game on its head in the third quarter where they outscored the Hornets by 35-8 to put the game to bed early. Duncan Robinson had a rough night as he finished with just three points on one of nine shooting.
Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards have been in a real slump as they’ve lost seven of their past eight games overall and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting routed by the Suns in a 95-80 home loss on Saturday. Montrezl Harrell led the team in scoring with 15 points off the bench while Aaron Holiday chipped in with 11 points, but no other player finished in double figures in this one. As a team, the Wizards shot just 35 percent from the field and a miserly five of 24 from the 3-point line as they struggled to match the Suns from the start and trailed by 27 points at halftime and things only got worse in the third quarter where they trailed by as many as 36 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Heat are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a losing record and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games playing on one days’ rest. The Wizards are 1-5 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record, 0-5 ATS in their last five home games and 8-21-1 ATS in their last 30 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 11-5 in the last 16 meetings overall, the Heat are 3-7 ATS in the last 10 meetings overall and the Heat are 26-11-2 ATS in the last 39 meetings in Washington.
The Heat are going to be shorthanded once again as KZ Okpala has been ruled out while Tyler Herro, Jimmy Butler, Max Strus and Caleb Martin are all listed as questionable. The Wizards will also be missing a couple of players as Bradley Beal and Daniel Gafford have both been ruled out. It’s the classic tale of two teams headed in opposite directions as the Heat are a team on the rise despite dealing with injuries all season, while the Wizards are looking like a sinking ship at the moment. The Heat are 26-11-2 ATS in the last 39 meetings in Washington and I think that trend continues here despite the injury cloud hanging over the Heat.
