The Indiana Pacers and the Cleveland Cavaliers collide at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on Sunday night.
The Indiana Pacers have been in a major slump as they’ve lost 10 of their past 14 games overall and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after coming up short against the Bulls in a 122-115 home loss on Friday. Caris LeVert led the team with 42 points and eight assists on 19 of 26 shooting, Terry Taylor added 21 points with 14 rebounds and five assists while Duane Washington Jr. chipped in with 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists. As a team, the Pacers shot 49 percent from the field and 12 of 27 from the 3-point line as they went with a small-ball lineup and got burned by the Bulls’ Nikola Vucevic who dominated the paint to finish with 36 points and 17 rebounds. Justin Holiday had a rough night as he scored just nine points on three of 11 shooting, Lance Stephenson scored just five points on one of seven shooting and the Pacers allowed 70 points in the paint.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been in great form as they’ve won 10 of their past 13 games and they will be looking to stay hot after outlasting the Hornets in a 102-101 road win on Friday. Jarrett Allen led the team with 29 points and 22 rebounds on 12 of 20 shooting, Kevin Love added 25 points with nine rebounds while Brandon Goodwin chipped in with 12 points, nine assists and four steals. As a team, the Cavaliers shot 40 percent from the field and 14 of 35 from the 3-point line as they squandered a 17-point fourth quarter lead, before escaping on two clutch free throws from Kevin Love with just 1.2 seconds remaining.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pacers are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five when their opponent allows 100 points or more in their previous game. The Cavaliers are 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight home games, 0-3-1 ATS in their last four home games against a team with a losing road record and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games overall.
Head to head, the over is 6-2 in the last eight meetings in Cleveland, the Pacers are 0-3-3 ATS in the last six meetings in Cleveland and the Pacers are 23-10-4 ATS in the last 37 meetings overall.
The Pacers are going to be shorthanded once again as they are still without Myles Turner and TJ McConnell while Malcolm Brogdon, Domantas Sabonis and Goga Bitadze are all listed as questionable. The Cavaliers will again be missing Lauri Markkanen and Ricky Rubio, while Darius Garland is listed as questionable for this one. It's hard to make much of an argument for the Pacers these days as they’ve been a mess ever since they announced the rebuild, while the Cavaliers have quietly been the surprise team of the league so far despite the injuries they’ve had to deal with. The Pacers should be able to hang around for most of the game, but in the end, I have the Cavaliers staying hot with another win and cover in this one.
