The Phoenix Suns invade Little Caesars Arena to do battle with the Detroit Pistons on Sunday afternoon.
The Phoenix Suns have been in great form lately as they’ve won six of their past eight games overall and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after routing the Pacers in a 112-94 road win on Friday. Devin Booker drained six 3-pointers to lead the team with 35 points, DeAndre Ayton added 27 points with 12 rebounds while Chris Paul chipped in with 12 points and nine assists. As a team, the Suns shot 45 percent from the field and 11 of 28 from the 3-point line as they held the Pacers to just 38 points in the first half to take the early lead, before opening the fourth quarter on a 16-2 run to push the lead out to 18 points. Mikal Bridges had a quiet night of just four points on one of six shooting.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons have been in pretty good shape lately as they’ve won five of their past eight games and they will be looking to stay hot after thrashing the Raptors in a 103-87 home win on Friday. Trey Lyles led the team with 21 points on six of 10 shooting off the bench, Cade Cunningham and Hamidou Diallo each scored 18 points while Saddiq Bey chipped in with 15 points. As a team, the Pistons shot 46 percent from the field and eight of 27 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 31 points in the first quarter, before holding the Raptors to just 16 points in the second quarter to take a 15-point lead into halftime. The Pistons were locked in defensively as they held the Raptors to just 32 percent shooting for the game by keeping a lid on their best player, Fred VanVleet shot was held to just six of 21 shooting from the field.
Looking at the betting trends, the Suns are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games, 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a losing record and 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team below. 400. The Pistons are 4-0 ATS in their last four home games, 4-19-3 ATS in their last 26 games following a win of more than 10 points and 4-1 ATS in their last five games playing on one days’ rest.
Head to head, the Suns are 3-14 ATS in the last 17 meetings in Detroit and the Suns are 9-27 ATS in the last 36 meetings overall.
The Suns could be a little shorthanded once again as they are sweating on the availability of Cameron Johnson who is listed as questionable, while the Pistons will be without Kelly Olynyk and Frank Jackson. The Suns are clearly coming in as the more consistent team in better form, so it’s no surprise that they’ve opened as road favorites once again, but the Pistons have been playing some of their best basketball of the season and they just routed the Raptors in their last outing. I do think the Suns get the win but they are just 3-14 ATS in the last 17 meetings in Detroit, so I’m taking the Pistons with the points in this spot.
