The Charlotte Hornets invade the Gainbridge Fieldhouse to battle the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night.
The Charlotte Hornets have been in decent shape as they’ve split their last eight games and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after making light work of the Rockets in a 123-99 home win on Monday. Terry Rozier led the team with 27 points and five assists on 10 of 17 shooting, Jalen McDaniels and LaMelo Ball each scored 16 points while Kelly Oubre Jr. provided the spark off the bench with 18 points. As a team, the Hornets shot 53 percent from the field and 18 of 41 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 64 points in the first half to take the early double-digit lead, before outscoring the Rockets by 32-20 in the third quarter to push the lead out to 28 points.
Meanwhile, the Indiana Pacers have been in a rut as they’ve lost four of their past six games and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting stopped by the Bulls in a 113-105 road loss on Sunday. Caris LeVert led the team with 27 points and nine assists, Myles Turner added 19 points, Chris Duarte added 16 points while Domantas Sabonis chipped in with 14 points, 16 rebounds and five assists. As a team, the Pacers shot 43 percent from the field and eight of 30 from the 3-point line, but they got off to a slow start and were always fighting an uphill battle after allowing 63 points in the first half. The Pacers fell behind by as many as 18 points before rallying late, but they never looked threatening.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 0-4 ATS in their last four games following a win of more than 10 points and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games overall. The Pacers are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six home games, 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games following a loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the under is 21-5 in the last 26 meetings in Indiana, the Hornets are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Indiana and the Hornets are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings overall.
The Hornets will once again be shorthanded as Miles Bridges and PJ Washington are both stuck in the virus protocols, while Malcolm Brogdon is listed as questionable for the Pacers. I can see why the Pacers have opened as favorites at home as they have the roster to get the job done, but the Pacers have lost four of their last six, and their two wins came against the two worst teams in the Pistons and the Rockets. The Hornets are coming into this one with a bit of momentum and I think they can escape with the minor upset in this spot.
