The Los Angeles Lakers and the Houston Rockets duke it out at the Toyota Center on Tuesday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been in a real slump as they will be hoping to put an end to their five-game slide after falling just short to the Nets in a 122-115 home loss on Saturday. LeBron James led the team with 39 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, Malik Monk added 20 points off the bench, Carmelo Anthony scored 17 points with 11 rebounds and four assists while Russell Westbrook tallied a triple-double of 13 points with 12 rebounds and 11 assists. As a team, the Lakers shot just 41 percent from the field and 10 of 35 from the 3-point line as they poured in 39 points in the second quarter to rally back from an early 17-point deficit, only to get blown out in the third quarter where the deficit grew to 23 points. Westbrook had a night to forget as he shot just four of 20 from the field.
Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets have been in a slump of their own as they’ve lost eight of their past 10 games and they will be hoping to arrest a four-game slide after getting routed by the Hornets in a 123-99 road loss last night. Trevelin Queen led the team in scoring with 17 points off the bench, Christian Wood and Eric Gordon each scored 16 points while Armoni Brooks chipped in with 11 points. As a team, the Rockets shot just 41 percent from the field and 15 of 46 from the 3-point line as they struggled to keep pace right from the start and trailed by 14 points at halftime, before scoring just 20 points in the third quarter to see the deficit balloon to 28 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 8-17-1 ATS in their last 26 games against a team with a losing record, 0-8 ATS in their last eight games playing on two days’ rest and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall. The Rockets are 16-37 ATS in their last 53 home games, 18-39 ATS in their last 57 games against a team with a losing record and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the under is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings overall and the Lakers are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings in Houston.
The Lakers will again be without Trevor Ariza, Rajon Rondo and Kent Bazemore, while the Rockets will be without Garrison Matthews, Jae’Sean Tate, Kenyon Martin Jr, and Kevin Porter Jr, while Jalen Green is listed as day to day. It’s hard to make an argument for either side as both teams are struggling at the moment, but the Lakers are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings in Houston and they simply need a win more than the Rockets at the moment. Give me the Lakers to escape with the narrow win and cover in this spot.
