The Utah Jazz travel to the AT&T Center to do battle with the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night.
The Utah Jazz have been in great shape lately as they’ve won 11 of their past 13 games and they will be aiming for a fourth straight victory after sneaking past the Mavericks in a 120-116 home win on Christmas Day. Donovan Mitchell led the team with 33 points, Bojan Bogdanovic added 25 points on nine of 14 shooting while Mike Conley chipped in with 22 points, seven rebounds and five assists. As a team, the Jazz shot 44 percent from the field and 12 of 36 from the 3-point line as they exploded for 40 points in the second quarter to overcome an early 16-point deficit, before going on a pivotal 9-1 run early in the fourth quarter to pull away late.
Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs have been in great shape lately as they’ve won six of their past nine games and they will be aiming for a fourth straight win after making light work of the Pistons in a 144-109 home win last night. Keldon Johnson led the team with 27 points on 10 of 12 shooting, Jock Landale added 18 points on seven of nine shooting off the bench, Jakob Poeltl scored 14 points on seven of eight shooting while Doug McDermott chipped in with 13 points. As a team, the Spurs shot 56 percent from the field and 13 of 27 from the 3-point line as they poured in 78 points in the first half to take a 24-point lead into halftime, before exploding for another 41 points in the third quarter to push the margin out to 39 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Jazz are 2-6 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a losing record and 0-5 ATS in their last five games overall. The Spurs are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 14-5 in the last 19 meetings overall, the Jazz are 9-22-1 ATS in the last 32 meetings in San Antonio and the Jazz are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings overall.
The Jazz were far from convincing in their narrow win over the shorthanded Mavericks in their last outing, but they’ve one of the hottest teams in the league lately, so it’s no surprise that they’re big favorites in this one. The Spurs have quietly been playing some of their best basketball of the season and their confidence must be sky-high after pouring in 144 points in a win over the Pistons last night. I think the Jazz get the win in this spot, but they are only 0-5 ATS in their last five games overall, so I’m taking the Spurs with the points in what should be a close one.
