The Boston Celtics invade the Target Center to do battle with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night.
The Boston Celtics have been in a rut as they’ve lost six of their past nine games and they will be hoping to bounce back after falling just short to the Bucks in a 117-113 road loss on Saturday. Jayson Tatum led the team with 25 points, nine rebounds and four assists, Jaylen Brown added 25 points, Marcus Smart added 19 points with seven assists while Payton Pritchard chipped in with 16 points and five assists off the bench. As a team, the Celtics shot 42 percent from the field and 17 of 45 from the 3-point line as they dominated the first half to build an early 19-point lead, but they just couldn’t keep up the pace in the second half where the Bucks outscored them by 70-51 to snatch the game from them late.
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been in a real slump lately as they’ve lost seven of their past 11 games and they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after getting routed by the Jazz in a 128-116 road loss on Thursday. Malik Beasley led the team with 33 points on 13 of 25 shooting, D’Angelo Russell added 19 points with seven rebounds and 14 assists, Naz Reid scored 17 points with 10 rebounds while Jaden McDaniels chipped in with 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 44 percent from the field and 17 of 45 from the 3-point line which were good enough numbers, but they just had no answer on the defensive end against the Jazz who amassed 101 points in the first three quarters.
Looking at the betting trends, the Celtics are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games following a loss and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games overall. The Timberwolves are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the over is 5-1 in the last six meetings overall, the Celtics are 9-1-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings overall and the Celtics are 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings in Minnesota.
The Celtics will still be a little shorthanded as Grant Williams is questionable while Dennis Schroder has been ruled out, while the Timberwolves will be severely shorthanded once again as Patrick Beverley is questionable while D’Angelo Russell and Naz Reid have both been ruled out. The Celtics have the clear advantage in depth as they have their core intact while the Timberwolves will be relying heavily on their role players to step up. The line is a little hefty, but I think the Celtics will be good enough to get the much-needed win and cover in this spot.
