The Washington Wizards and the New York Knicks duke it out at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night.
The Washington Wizards have been in rough shape as they’ve lost seven of their past nine games and because they had their last game postponed, they haven’t seen the court since their 109-103 road win over the Jazz on Saturday. Bradley Beal led the team with 37 points and seven assists on 13 of 24 shooting, Raul Neto added 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists off the bench while Kentavious Caldwell-Pope chipped in with 13 points. As a team, the Wizards shot 44 percent from the field and nine of 31 from the 3-point line as they held the Jazz to just 20 points in the second quarter to erase an early 11-point deficit, before finishing strong in the second half as they kept the Jazz in check while leaning on the hot hand of Beal. Kyle Kuzma scored just eight points on four of 12 shooting while Spencer Dinwiddie finished scoreless on zero of seven shooting.
Meanwhile, the New York Knicks have been in a funk as they’ve lost eight of their past 11 games, but they will be eager to build some momentum here after taking down the lowly Pistons in a 105-91 home win on Tuesday. Evan Fournier led the team with 22 points, Julius Randle and Kemba Walker scored 21 points apiece while Mitchell Robinson chipped in with 17 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks off the bench. As a team, the Knicks shot 44 percent from the field and 11 of 33 from the 3-point line, but they set this win up with their defense as they held the Pistons to just 37 points in the first half while restricting them to just 36 percent shooting from the field.
Looking at the betting trends, the Wizards are 0-8-1 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a losing record, 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 road games and 1-7-1 ATS in their last nine games overall. The Knicks are 1-5 ATS in their last six home games, 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and 2-5 ATS in their lats seven games overall.
Head to head, the under is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings overall and the Wizards are 10-4 ATS in the last 14 meetings in New York.
The Wizards will once again be without Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Rui Hachimura, while the Knicks will be missing Nerlens Noel and Derrick Rose. The Wizards are coming into this one well-rested as they had their last game postponed and they would’ve taken so much confidence from their comeback win over the Jazz on Saturday. The Knicks really needed Tuesday’s win over the Pistons as they will take any win they can get at this point, but I’m sticking with the Wizards to escape with the win behind another big game from Beal.
