The Orlando Magic and the Atlanta Hawks do battle at the State Farm Arena on Wednesday night.
The Orlando Magic have been in terrible form as they’ve lost 14 of their past 16 games overall, but they will be looking to build some momentum after sneaking past the Nets in a 100-93 road win on Saturday. Robin Lopez led the team in scoring with 20 points, 10 rebounds and four assists on 10 of 22 shooting, Chuma Okeke added 15 points with six rebounds and two blocks, Gary Harris scored 17 points with five assists while Franz Wagner chipped in with 14 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. As a team, the Magic shot just 41 percent from the field and 10 of 31 from the 3-point line as they restricted the shorthanded Nets to just 17 points in the first quarter to build an early 17-point lead which proved to be just enough as the Nets cut the lead to just four on two occasions.
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks have been in a rut as they’ve lost five of their past seven games and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting routed by the Nuggets in a 133-115 home loss on Friday. Trae Young led the team with 34 points and 10 assists, John Collins added 20 points with 10 rebounds while Clint Capela chipped in with 15 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. As a team, the Hawks shot 46 percent from the field and just seven of 24 from the 3-point line, but this loss was about their lackluster defensive effort as they allowed 43 points in the second quarter to fall behind by 18 points at halftime and things only got worse in the third quarter where the Hawks trailed by as many as 25 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Magic are 3-10 ATS in their last 13 games against a team with a losing record and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Hawks are 0-7 ATS in their last seven home games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the under is 40-19 in the last 59 meetings overall, the Magic are 0-4-1 ATS in the last five meetings overall and the Magic are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Atlanta.
The Magic were able to arrest an ugly seven-game slide with a win over the depleted Nets before having their last game postponed, while the Hawks were in season-worst form before their last game got postponed. The Magic will be sweating on the availability of Cole Anthony and Wendell Carter Jr. who are both listed as questionable for this, while the Hawks have already ruled out Trae Young, Danilo Gallinari and Clint Capela. With so many injuries on both ends, I don’t see how either team could be so heavily favored. With that being said, I’m taking the Magic with the points in this spot.
