The Boston Celtics play host to the New York Knicks at the TD Garden on Saturday night.
The New York Knicks have been in a real slump as they’ve lost seven of their past nine games and they will be eager to build some momentum after arresting a four-game slide after beating the Rockets in a 116-103 road win on Thursday. Immanuel Quickley drained seven 3-pointers to lead the team with 24 points on seven of 13 shooting, Evan Fournier added 23 points on eight of 12 shooting while Julius Randle chipped in with 21 points and six assists. As a team, the Knicks shot 47 percent from the field and 17 of 36 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 39 points in the first quarter to take the early lead, before rallying in the fourth quarter where they used an 18-5 to pull away and win comfortably in the end.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics have been in a rut as they’ve lost four of their past five games and they will be hoping to bounce back in this one after falling just short to the Warriors in a 111-107 home loss last night. Jayson Tatum led the team in scoring with 27 points, eight rebounds and six assists, Jaylen Brown added 20 points with nine rebounds while Marcus Smart chipped in with 19 points, six rebounds and eight assists. As a team, the Celtics shot 43 percent from the field and 15 of 41 from the 3-point line as they allowed the Warriors to get off to a quick start and found themselves trailing by 14 points at halftime. The Celtics held the Warriors to just 14 points in the third quarter to take the lead in the fourth quarter, but the Warriors used a final 10-2 run to pull away late.
Looking at the betting trends, the Knicks are 1-5 ATS in their last six games playing on one days’ rest and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. The Celtics are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games playing on zero days’ rest and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Saturday games.
Head to head, the under is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings in Boston and the Knicks are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Boston.
Obi Toppin, RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley are all out due to league health and safety protocols while Derrick Rose is listed as questionable for this one, while the Celtics are much more whole as the only key player missing is Dennis Schroder who remains out with an illness for this one. These two teams have already met one this season, but it was all the way back in the season opener in a game where the Knicks won in double overtime. I’m expecting another close game, but with all the Knicks' injuries, I think the Celtics get the job done in this spot despite playing on zero days’ rest.
