The Los Angeles Lakers travel to the American Airlines Center to take on the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been in great shape lately as they’ve won five of their past seven games and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after routing the Magic in a 106-94 home win on Sunday. LeBron James led the team with a triple-double of 30 points with 11 rebounds and 10 assists, Russell Westbrook, and Talen-Horton Tucker each scored 19 points while Carmelo Anthony chipped in with 13 points off the bench, but no other player scored more than six points. As a team, the Lakers shot 48 percent from the field and 13 of 28 from the 3-point line as they struggled to get going and trailed going into halftime, before taking over in the third quarter where they outscored the Magic by an impressive 31-10 to lead by as many as 25 points.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks haven’t been at their best over the past month, but they’re starting to build some momentum as they’ve now won three of their past four after routing the Hornets in a 120-96 home win on Monday. Kristaps Porzingis led the team with 24 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks, Trey Burke added 22 points and six assists off the bench, Jalen Brunson scored 13 points with eight assists, while Tim Hardaway Jr. chipped in with 19 points. As a team, the Mavericks shot 51 percent from the field and 19 of 41 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 37 points in the first quarter to take an early double-digit lead, before making another run in the second quarter to push the lead out to 30 points to put the game to bed early.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a winning record and 0-7 ATS in their last seven games playing on two days’ rest. The Mavericks are 1-5 ATS in their last six home games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games following a win of more than 10 points.
The Lakers are coming into this meeting with plenty of momentum, but they could be shorthanded in this one as Anthony Davis is currently listed as questionable. The Mavericks have their own injury concerns as Luka Doncic and Willie Cauley-Stein are both still out. It’s always tricky to pick a game when a player as important as Anthony Davis has a questionable status, but even if he doesn’t play, I like the remaining Lakers to take care of business behind a big game from James.
