The Atlanta Hawks invade the Amway Center to do battle with the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night.
The Atlanta Hawks have been in a bit of a rut as they’ve lost four of their past five games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting stopped by the Rockets in a 132-126 home loss on Monday. Trae Young led the team with 41 points and nine assists on 14 of 22 shooting, John Collins added 14 points while Clint Capela, Danilo Gallinari, and Cam Reddish each scored 12 points. As a team, the Hawks shot 49 percent from the field and 15 of 39 from the 3-point line as they stormed out of the gates with 38 points in the first quarter to jump out to an early double-digit lead which swelled to 19 points in the third quarter. However, their never put the Rockets away and got burned in the fourth quarter where the Rockets poured in 44 points to snatch the game from them late. Kevin Huerter had himself a night to forget as he scored just five points on two of 10 shooting.
Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic have been in a real slump as they’ve lost 12 of their past 13 games and they will be hoping to arrest a five-game slide after getting routed by the Lakers in a 106-94 road loss on Sunday. Cole Anthony led the team in scoring with 21 points, six rebounds and five assists, Franz Wagner added 20 points while Wendell Carter Jr. chipped in with 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists. As a team, the Magic shot 48 percent from the field and 13 of 28 from the 3-point line as they held the Lakers to just 18 points in the first quarter to lead for most of the first half, but all their hard work went down the drain in the third quarter where the Lakers outscored them by 36-10 to put them behind by as many as 25 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hawks are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. The Magic are 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 home games, 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games against a team with a losing record and 1-5 ATS in their last six games playing on two days’ rest.
Head to head, the under is 39-19 in the last 58 meetings overall, the Hawks are 1-4-1 ATS in the last six meetings in Orlando and the Hawks are 3-0-1 ATS in the last four meetings overall.
The Hawks have really been in a funk lately as they’ve lost four of their past five games and they will still be without Bogdan Bogdanovic and De’Andre Hunter, but their struggles are nothing compared to the Magic who have won just one of their past 13 games. The line seems a bit hefty for a road team who have been struggling lately, but the Hawks are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games and I think they’re turnaround this season starts with a much-needed win and cover in this spot.
