The Brooklyn Nets travel to the State Farm Arena to do battle with the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night.
The Brooklyn Nets have been in decent shape as they’ve won seven of their past 10 games, but they will be eager to bounce back after falling short to the surging Rockets in a 114-104 road loss on Wednesday. James Harden led the team with 25 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists, Cam Thomas provided the spark off the bench with 18 points while Patty Mills chipped in with 12 points, but no other player scored more than 10 points. As a team, the Nets shot just 39 percent from the field and eight of 33 from the 3-point line as they struggled right from the start and allowed 67 points in the first half to fall behind big early and they never threatened in the second half where they fell behind by as many as 20 points. Harden had a night to forget as he shot just four of 16 from the field while committing eight turnovers, while Mills shot just three of 11 from the field.
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks have been in great form as they’ve won nine of their past 12 games and they will be looking to stay hot after beating the Timberwolves in a 121-110 road win on Monday. Trae Young led the team with 29 points and 11 assists, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot scored 23 points while Danilo Gallinari chipped in with 20 points on seven of 10 shooting off the bench. As a team, the Hawks shot 44 percent from the field and a sizzling 25 of 49 from the 3-point line as they hit the ground running and set the tone with 33 points the first quarter, before exploding for 45 points in the third quarter to push their lead out to 21 points. Luwawu-Cabarrot drained seven 3-pointers but Kevin Huerter is still in a shooting slump as he finished with just 10 points on four of 13 shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nets are 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record, 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following a loss and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall. The Hawks are 0-4 ATS in their last four home games, 2-7 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a winning record and 4-0 ATS in their last four games playing on three or more days’ rest.
Head to head, the over is 4-1 in the last five meetings overall and the Nets are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall.
The Nets have been able to win games despite playing below their best, but they are coming into this one looking to bounce back after getting beaten by the Rockets in their last outing. The Hawks are a little banged up at the moment as they are without Bogdan Bogdanovic, De’Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish, but they have home-court advantage and they haven’t played since Monday. This should be a close one, but I think the Hawks will be ready for the Nets in this one.
