The Memphis Grizzlies play host to the Los Angeles Lakers at the FedExForum on Thursday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been in decent shape lately as they’ve won three of their past four games and they will be hoping to stay hot after making light work of the Celtics in a 117-102 home win on Tuesday. LeBron James led the team with 30 points and five assists on 13 of 19 shooting, Russell Westbrook tallied 24 points with 11 assists while Anthony Davis chipped in with 17 points, 16 rebounds, three assists and two blocks. As a team, the Lakers shot 51 percent from the field and eight of 27 from the 3-point line as they poured in 60 points in the first half to take the lead into halftime, before limiting the Celtics to just 20 points in the third quarter to push the lead out to 20 points. The Lakers didn’t have the best shooting night with players like Talen Horton-Tucker and Carmelo Anthony combining to shoot zero of nine from the 3-point line, but they dominated the boards by 51-34 and finished with 66 points in the paint.
Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies were in great form as they were riding a five-game win streak before getting stopped in their tracks by the Mavericks in a 104-96 home loss last night. Jaren Jackson Jr. led the team in scoring with 26 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, Dillon Brooks added 15 points while Desmond Bane chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Grizzlies shot 40 percent from the field and nine of 31 from the 3-point line as they held the Mavericks to just 22 points in the second quarter to lead by as many as 12 points, but they went cold on offense and couldn’t find a way back after the Mavericks went on a decisive 11-2 run midway through the fourth quarter. Steven Adams finished with just six points and six turnovers while Tyus Jones scored just five points on two of seven shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record and 9-19 ATS in their last 28 games overall. The Grizzlies are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 5-0 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the under is 10-2 in the last 12 meetings overall and the Lakers are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Memphis.
There’s always an injury cloud hanging over Anthony Davis and LeBron James these days, but the news is that both are likely to feature in this game which is great news for the Lakers who have been improving lately. The Grizzlies refused to let injuries slow them down as they had reeled off five straight wins before a poor second half cost them against the Mavericks last night. The Grizzlies are a young team that can pull off the upset if they jump on the Lakers early, but it’s going to be tough playing on zero days’ rest. The Lakers haven’t played since Tuesday and I think they get the job done against a shorthanded Grizzlies team.
