The Washington Wizards and the Indiana Pacers duke it out at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Monday night.
The Washington Wizards have been in a real slump as they’ve lost seven of their past 11 games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting routed by the Raptors in a 102-90 road loss last night. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led the team with 26 points on eight of nine shooting while Bradley Beal added 14 points, but no other player finished in double figures in scoring. As a team, the Wizards shot just 41 percent from the field and eight of 25 from the 3-point line as they struggled to get out of second gear and scored just 12 points in the first quarter, before allowing 40 points in the second quarter to trail by 21 points going into halftime. Kyle Kuzma scored just nine points on four of 11 shooting while Spencer Dinwiddie scored nine points on three of 11 shooting.
Meanwhile, the Indiana Pacers have been in a rut as they’ve lost five of their past six games and they will be hoping to stop a four-game slide after falling short to the Heat in a 113-104 home loss on Friday. Caris LeVert led the team in scoring with 27 points on eight of 16 shooting, Myles Turner added 20 points with four rebounds and three blocks, Chris Duarte added 15 points while Malcolm Brogdon chipped in with 14 points and seven assists. As a team, the Pacers shot 43 percent from the field and nine of 36 from the 3-point line as they fell behind early and fell behind by as many as 20 points, before coming back in the fourth quarter to keep the final score respectable. The Pacers just had no answer for the Heat’s Kyle Lowry and Duncan Robinson who combined to score 50 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Wizards are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games, 28-11-1 ATS in their last 40 games playing on zero days’ rest and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Pacers are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games and 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games against a team with a winning record.
Head to head, the over is 4-0 in the last four meetings overall and the Wizards are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings in Indiana.
The Wizards will surely come out swinging after only two players finished in double figures in last night’s loss to the Raptors, but it’s hard to trust a team that has really struggled lately. The Pacers haven’t been much better as they’ve lost four straight, so this matchup feels like a coin flip to me. I want to take the Wizards with the points, but the Pacers are almost at full strength and they just seem long overdue for a win, especially with LeVert starting to heat up now. Give me the Pacers to get the much-needed win and cover behind big games from LeVert and Sabonis.
